Over the last few days West Michigan experienced thunderstorms with gusty wind and heavy rain. First came the thunderstorms and wind Wednesday night. From the Grand Rapids National Weather Service, here are a few of the higher reported wind gusts:
60mph near Port Sheldon
51mph near South Haven
48mph near Muskegon
The rain and thunderstorms continued into the day on Thursday. The heaviest rain fell along I-94 with many areas picking up at least 1-2 inches. Battle Creek received some of the heaviest rainfall with some flooded roads and stranded vehicles.
After a comfortable start to the weekend with highs in the low 80s the heat and humidity return starting on Sunday and continuing into next week with temperatures surging into the upper 80s and low 90s. An increase in the humidity will push the heat index values well into the 90s.
See the slideshow at the top of the page for more on the heavy rain and returning heat.
