Guns under gov't attack again but Americans buy them up

Without directly attacking the Second Amendment or openly criticizing the right of U.S. citizens to bear arms, the Obama Administration has quietly sought to enter into a treaty under the auspices of the U.N. that would do exactly both of those things.

As Dave Kopel states, the U.N. has declared to the world that citizens have no human right to self-defense.

Apparently Obama agrees, or else he would not be seeking to reverse long-standing U.S. policy on firearms in order to bring this nation into compliance with United Nations 'mandates,' although they have no authority to issue mandates.

But this is not the only method of underhanded attack the Obama Administration has employed to weaken the self-defense rights of Americans.

The proposed government takeover of healthcare contains a provision that makes gun ownership a 'public health issue.'  Obama's appointee at OSHA also considers owning a gun to be a threat to the public health.

These direct threats to our Constitutional rights have not gone unnoticed by the public.

Remember that during the leadup to the 2008 Presidential election Americans were so worried about their gun rights in an Obama Presidency that they began buying up firearms by the truckload.  From October of 2008 through June of 2009 gun dealers had experienced their worst periods of shortages due to the run on gun shops.  Even now, although the shortages have abated, gun dealers report continuing brisk sales.

But the big news today is that the run on the gun stores that we saw beginning last October may be set for a replay.

A London newspaper is reporting that in spite of the deep recession, Smith & Wesson and other gun manufacturers are reporting record sales.  In fact, Smith & Wesson expects to double its sales in a recession--something unheard of in other businesses during hard economic times.

Although the 4th quarter of 2008 was a record-setting period for gun sales, Glock has already experienced a 71% increase in handgun sales over the same period last year.  Similar increases have been reported by Ruger.

The interesting thing about the sharp increases in firearms sales is not simply the fact that Americans may be wary of the relentless attacks on their gun rights.  In hard economic times they also want extra personal protection--self-defense.

Yet Mr. Obama and other Leftists want nothing of it.  They want Americans personally defenseless against thugs.

Note Senator Charles Schumer, D-NY, and his statement about the Ft. Hood terrorist attack:  '(The psychiatrist) who killed 13 at Fort Hood walked through a gaping hole in the federal system to keep guns away from terrorists.'

No, Senator.  The terrorist walked through a gaping hole in self-defense at an Army base where soldiers are unarmed and unable to defend themselves.

Note Chicago Mayor Richard Daley's statement about the terrorist attack:  'Unfortunately, Americans love guns.  We love guns to the point to where we see the devastation on a daily basis.  You don't blame a group.'

So, tell me, Mr. Mayor, why did you just blame average Americans for the massacre at Fort Hood that was carried out by a Muslim Jihadist?  

More importantly, where did America get imbeciles such as Schumer and Daley who are always willing to blame such attacks on anything except the perpetrator, particularly when that perpetrator is a Jihadist Muslim?

America needs a house-cleaning.  And we need much prayer.  AMEN and pass the ammunition.
