Guns in Texas: So shoot me!

A gunman interrupts the TX workplace...
Governor Rick Perry this week said enough people in Texas have concealed handgun licenses to deter violent criminals. In his words, “that keeps us all safer.”
A 24-year-old Houston-area man, Fausto Cardenas, fired several shots outside the state Capitol early this week, triggering a huge response from state troopers who almost immediately took the person into custody.
Cardenas had just visited the Capitol office of Senator Dan Patrick, Republican from Houston.
No one was injured, but the Texas Department of Public Safety closed the Capitol for the remainder of the day. Neither Governor Rick Perry nor Lt. Governor David Dewhurst were in the Capitol at the time of the incident.
Cardenas was described at the time as a “clean-shaven, very nondescript kind of guy with brownish blonde hair.” Disclosure of whether Cardenas had a permit to carry a concealed handgun…is illegal.
The day after a shooting outside the state Capitol, lawmakers on Friday suggested that metal detectors to the building entrances were imminent, a move Gov. Rick Perry suggested he would not likely support. Perry accepted endorsements from the Texas State Rifle Association and the NRA on Friday.
How do your Texas representatives, including Governor Rick Perry and Kay Bailey Hutchison, vote on gun laws?
And the President of the United States appears to agree with the Anti gun control side:
“In just one year, Barack Hussein Obama has signed into law MORE REPEALS of federal gun policies than in President George W. Bush’s eight years in office.”
How much do YOU know about gun laws in the State of Texas?  Take the poll and then know the law!
What ARE the gun laws in the State of Texas?

I do not want my co-workers to all have guns...only those that are smart enough to know how to use them and when to use them. I think we have too many shootings in Texas anyway without even more idiots running around with concealed weapons. This guy at the Capitol was proof. He could have easily done murder.

2nd amendmant protects my rights to carry a gun and I do. There are too many crazys out there like the lunatic who was at the Capitol (not Rick Perry). Texas is safer because more people carry handguns.

I am shocked to hear about Obama's gun supporting record. That is very unusual for a liberal Democrat. Escpecially compared to George Bush's record. There were also a few things on the poll that I had a hard time believing were true, like the safety training.

But if you replace the word "gun" with the words "nuclear weapons" there would be a lot of hypocrisy arise.
For some reason, people don't care about their uneducated, moronic co-worker having a gun, but they go crazy thinking about another country having a bomb.
    Either're dead from stupidity.

Texas has one of the lowest crime rates BECAUSE we carry guns. The facts support anti-gun control states are safer than the liberal states that allow their citizens to get picked off at the criminals will. Criminals will always have guns.
You can't change the Constitution because some nutjob ALMOST caused a crime.

What a hatchet job of an article. Maybe you should do...say...oh I dunno...2 minutes of research before writing an article filled with such blatant anti-Second Amendment drivel.

How about this....The following report represent the number of Concealed Handgun License (CHL) holders with convictions for GUN RELATED offenses vs. the entire TX population in 2007. It's from the Texas Department of Public Safety website:

    Total Convictions:61,260

Convictins of CHL holders: 160 (The HUGE majority were from accidently carrying into area deemed not in accordance with law 30.06...NOT violent crimes)

CHL holder PERCENTAGE of TOTAL convistions: 0.2612%

P.S. -- I have been in HR for years and have ALWAYS carried my CHL firearm to work with me. God help you if you have a REAL nutjob stroll through your office killing your friends and co-workers....who is going to help you? The police? God? Your looks? Gimme a break.

Let me clarify that I carry when it is LEGAL to do so. There are laws that accompany having a CHL. But my belief is the 2nd Amendment IS my CHL.

I'm thankful I'm retired and not working in an office near you. The superiority complex that accompanies gun owners is what makes them dangerous. Just because you are armed with a weapon doesn't make you "better" than anyone else, it just makes you more at risk to shooting someone else.

If the world is going to find peaceful solutions to our problems, we need to put DOWN the weapons and start picking up our Bibles again.

Just because you are armed with self-righteousness doesn't make you "better" than anyone else, it just makes you more at risk to hating someone else.

Sarah...I invite you to read the Constitution and the Federalist Papers.

Second...years ago when George Jo Hennard drove his pickup truck into a Luby's Cafeteria and shot 23 people to death while wounding another 20 there was a woman in that crowd. That woman was Suzanna Gratia Hupp...a former member of the Texas House of Representatives. Hupp and her parents were having lunch... She had left her gun in her car to comply with Texas state law at the time which forbade carrying a concealed weapon. When George Hennard drove his truck into the cafeteria and opened fire on the patrons, Hupp instinctively reached into her purse for her weapon, but it was in her vehicle. Her father, Al Gratia, tried to rush Hennard and was shot in the chest. As the gunman reloaded, Hupp escaped through a broken window and believed that her mother, Ursula Gratia, was behind her. Hennard put a gun to her mother's head as she cradled her dead husband and shot her dead.
