Rocker Axl Rose brings Guns N' Roses to House of Blues (located in the Showboat Hotel Casino) on Friday, February 24, 2012, for one show at 10:00 p.m.
This is not the original band you remember from the late 80s when Guns N' Roses was churning out hits like Sweet Child o' Mine and Welcome to the Jungle. That band consisted of Axl Rose on vocals, Slash on lead guitar, Izzy Stradlin on rhythm guitar, Duff McKagan on bass guitar and Steven Adler on drums.
The current Guns N' Roses band is comprised of Axl Rose on vocals, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal and DJ Ashba on lead guitars, Richard Fortuns on rhythm guitar, Tommy Stinson on bass guitar, Frank Ferrer on drums and Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman on keyboards.
The "classic" Guns N' Roses, sometimes abbreviated G N' R, broke onto the rock scene in 1987 with their Billboard No. 1 hit Sweet Child o' Mine (featured video clip) from the album Appetite for Destruction. To date, that album has sold more than 28 million copies worldwide. It's been said that G N' R brought rock and roll into an era dominated by dance music and pop metal. Their style has been compared to the early Rolling Stones. (Continue reading below)
Over the years, the band has undergone many changes including the much-publicized breakup of the songwriting team of Axl Rose and Slash; Slash left the band in 1993. On December 7, 2011, it was announced that the classic Guns N' Roses lineup were to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. No one is yet sure which members of the original band will perform on that evening.
"I personally just want to finish what I started with those jack-offs," drummer Steven Adler told Rolling Stone last month. "We started off something, let's end the career playing together, at least once. I'd love to do a whole tour of the world. I personally – and I know that Slash and Duff feel the same way – we owe it to the fans to do a tour around the world. We haven't performed for over 20 years and they've stuck by us and believe in us."
