A gunman opened fire at the University of Texas in Austin before turning his gun on himself.
According to the Houston Chronicle, "University of Texas President Bill Powers cancelled classes for today after the campus was locked down when a man went into the Perry-Castañeda Library and apparently shot and killed himself.
"Because of conflicting descriptions of the man and what weapon he was carrying, the campus was shut down as police searched for a possible second shooter."
The AP reported, "Senior Robby Reeb told ABCNews.com he was rushing through the campus late for a class when the shooting happened.
"'I was walking from the business school, and a guy sprinted past me screaming, 'There's a guy with a gun.' I looked up and saw a man in a ski mask, wearing a suit, and carrying an assault rifle. And I called 911.'"
Fox affiliate KDFW said, "University spokesman Rhonda Weldon said the man fired shots on the sixth floor of the Perry-Castaneda Library in the southwest part of the campus, near MLK Boulevard.
"Weldon said the shooter did not injure anyone, but shot and killed himself. Austin police confirmed the shooter's gun was an AK-47.
"Initial reports are that the unidentified man was wearing a black suit and had his face covered, and that he fired at least 15 shots."
Fortunately, no one else was injured. James 4:13:17 cautions us against boasting about what we will do tomorrow:
Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit"— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that." As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.
Our lives can be here today and gone tomorrow. Are you prepared to meet your Maker?

What a tastelessly selected Bible quotation!
Yeah, that bible quotation is out of place and awkward to say the least. Ending a breaking news article about a gunman with the sentence "are you prepared to meet your maker?" Real classy.
Got something to say?
