More than an hour after they were abandoned in their dad’s carjacked SUV, two crying children were rescued Sunday night.
But police are still looking for the gunman who took the vehicle knowing the 5 and 6-year-old girls were inside.
The incident began around 6:15 p.m. Sunday in the Carrington Point Subdivision at 2776 Holligan Point, according to Fulton County police.
The man flagged down the children’s dad who was driving a 2012 white Jeep Wrangler and asked for a ride to the store, police spokesman Sgt. Scott McBride said.
Mr. Eddie Bell refused and the man pointed a gun at his face and ordered him to get out. The 33-year-old dad told the man about the children in the back seat sleeping.
“The man just got in the car and drove off with the children inside,” Sgt. McBride said.
About an hour later, a woman returning to her home at 415 Ashington Court heard the children crying. She found them in the abandoned vehicle in the cul-de-sac about a mile from the carjacking and took them inside where she called police.
The girls, who were unharmed, were quickly reunited with their mother.
“Oh my God, I’m just so happy, because I was so scared,” the mom, Ms. Otura Lista, told Channel 2 Action News. “That was the worst night of my life.”
