HOUSTON - Charges have been filed against a man arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 5500 Yale St. Tuesday evening.
Anthony Lee Parks, 23, is charged with murder in the 339th State District Court.
Parks is accused in the killing of Mehmood Ghaznavi, 52, of Houston, who suffered a gunshot wound in his chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another man also suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital. Doctors expect him to survive his injuries.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants T. Biggs, A. Semmelrock and Officers M. Condon and M. Brady reported that Ghaznavi, owner and operator of the Java Gold jewlery store, was inside his business when Parks entered the store and attempted to rob him. At some point during the attempted robbery, Ghaznavi and Parks exchanged gunfire. Ghaznavi was fatally shot and the Parks fled the scene on foot.
Further investigation led to the identity of Parks as the shooter and he was arrested Thursday without incident.
