“Virginia Tech Learned From Massacre, but Not Lawmakers,” anti-self-defense advocate Lori Haas writes in a Dec. 9 opinion piece posted on FoxNews.com.
Haas is the mother of one of the students wounded in the 2007 massacre, and she’s referring to a campus shooting that happened earlier this week, one that university spokesman Larry Hincker claims proves their rampaging murderer response system (one that took 21 minutes from the first shot to send out a warning and left the murderer walking free on campus for over half an hour before he stopped himself) “worked very well.” That’s par for the course for Hincker, who before the 2007 atrocities had publicly disparaged an adult student with a concealed carry permit as “inane” while he imparted the following bit of soon-to-be-exposed incompetence and hubris:
"Guns don't belong in classrooms," Hincker concluded. "They never will. Virginia Tech has a very sound policy preventing same."
Denial and misplacing blame seem to be common traits plaguing the gun ban crowd, and Haas is no exception. Her experience has turned her into not just a vocal anti-gunner, but one who regards the act of armed self defense as an act of evil:
Recently, my friend Colin Goddard—who like my daughter was shot on April 16, 2007, but survived—said something that stuck with me. Responding to those whose only solution to violence on campus is to arm themselves with concealed handguns, he said, “Shame on those unwilling to be their brothers’ keeper, but being all too eager to be his executioners.”
I couldn’t agree more. In the wake of this latest incident, we all need to think carefully about how to prevent future gun violence, not create more of it.
I’m sorry the agony the victims endured hurt them and their loved ones so terribly. But how they now conduct themselves as a result has become a choice for them, and they have chosen to focus their energies on disparaging and restricting the choices of those of us they contemptuously dismiss as “radicals.” Under these circumstances, any sympathies I may still have take a back seat to protecting my rights, and those aren’t subject to the delusional ranting of fanatics who would themselves, based on results, be helpless and useless at keeping one of their “brothers” bent on bloody murder at bay.
