The rally will take place at the state capitol building on the northside of the grounds and will commence at 12 noon, lasting until 3 p.m.
The rally is being sponsored by the Connecticut Citizens Defense League, which sent out the following announcement:
On April 5, 2014, we’ll be gathering on the North side of the State Capitol Building at high noon to mark the first anniversary of the the signing of one of the most unconstitutional gun laws in the nation. Our keynote speaker will be noted gun rights activist and writer David Codrea. David has been featured in Guns and Ammo, Handguns, and Guns Magazine, where he writes the monthly “Rights Watch” column. He is also the National Gun Rights Examiner for Examiner.com, and writes the blog “The War on Guns”. He and Mike Vanderboegh (who spoke at our rally last year) were the ones that originally broke the story of Eric Holder’s Fast and Furious scandal.
As the Examiner has reported repeatedly, the citizens of Connecticut who value and cherish all of their God-given rights, including the right to self-defense with firearms and ammunition, are not going to be left to their own devices in the wake of the assault on those rights by the state's governor and legislature, and apparently a majority of the citizens who elected these persons to office. Citizens across the country stand in solidarity with those under assault in Connecticut, who have been turned into felons with one stroke of the governor's pen as he signed the legislature's anti-gun bill into law.
For those who will be attending the rally, the Connecticut Citizens Defense League provides the following vital information:
Critical information regarding firearms and lawful carry at the Capitol:
While the carrying of firearms is permitted on the Capitol grounds, firearms that are now defined as assault weapons under Public Act 13-3 are prohibited. To avoid confusion and unnecessary hassles, we highly recommend carrying handguns openly or concealed (if you are properly permitted – and make sure you have 10 or less rounds in the magazine) in lieu of long arms. Also, firearms are strictly prohibited in Bushnell Park, which is right next to the rally. Keep this in mind as you are walking to and from where you parked. The Capitol police have been extremely friendly at our past rallies and have never hassled us for any reason. Lets try to keep it that way.
Western Rifle Shooters Association provides more information concerning the signs the activists plan to carry during the rally, as well as tips on parking.
Although last year's rally was held in protest of the signing into law the state's new draconian anti-gun, anti-ammo, and anti-magazine laws, those laws did not take full effect until April 1 of this year. The magazine portion of the laws went into full effect on Jan. 1 of this year.
Thus, this will be the first gun rights rally held on the Capitol grounds since all of the new laws took effect.
