They’re ba…ack.
The Journal News is still trying to get the names of New York pistol permit holders. Not just concealed carry permit holders, which would be bad enough, but all handgun owners in Putnam County, and they’ve filed a lawsuit to compel the information to be released.
They say they only want it for their story-checking ability and won’t publish the names like they did before, but not only is there no reason to trust them, bottom line it is none of their business who owns a gun. It’s none of the government’s, either, but that’s another column.
They argue it’s not their fault that guns were stolen in break-ins at three homes on the map they published, and present their own analysis of burglary rates to justify that conclusion. Forget the former burglar who said the paper provided “a gold mine of information.” For some reason, Bart Simpson comes to mind.
They’re conveniently silent on their own hypocrisy of not personally standing behind their anti-gun editorial agenda, to the point of hiding behind armed guards.
And of course, anyone expecting bureaucratic toadies at the parent company Gannett to stand by its own ethics policy is indulging a futile fantasy. Anyone who’s ever been subjected to “corporate ethics training” (Hah!) already knows that’s typically a boondoggle sweetheart deal between Human Resources drones and a favored consultant, designed to offend the help by telling them not to steal stationery supplies and fudge on time slips while the Executive Row stooges are all stuffing silverware into their pockets until the opportunity to chart their next shipwreck arrives.
Gun owners are expressing their outrage to this latest offensive in comments to the LoHud.com piece, agreeing the only reason the paper is doing this is to harass them, and expressing agreement that cancelling subscriptions and not buying the paper is the way to go.
Based on results, that’s not enough. This is not a new story and the paper has just shown its willingness to double down and press on after instigating multiple furors. Even though the County Executive is “confident” the Journal News will not succeed in this, can there be any doubt their scheming minds will continue to find ways to subvert the right to keep and bear arms, and that they won’t be doing everything in their power to editorialize, misreport, selectively ignore and generally undermine the interests of gun owners until something compels them to knock it off?
We need to understand and accept that there is an ideological cold civil war these Fourth Estate Fifth Columnists and their fellow monopoly of violence zealots are prosecuting against Americans who simply want to be left alone, and that if we don’t treat it as such and respond in kind, they’re going to continue to make advances. We have given them no incentive to stop, and the more successful they are, the more they’ll be encouraged to turn up the heat.
A proven way to discourage that is to cut off the enemy’s -- and that’s what they are -- supply lines. Major advertisers like automobile dealerships provide “aid and comfort” to that enemy with multiple full-page ads. A group of committed and organized “privateers” could discourage that by targeting one or more for exposure, a phone, email and letter campaign, and even weekend sidewalk protests that would most certainly and visibly cause some car buyers to drive on. These lots don’t want to get involved in a polarizing issue, all they want to do is sell cars, and making them feel our pain will in turn make them pass it on to the advertising rep who sells them space: “Your editors’ personal political agenda brought this down on us. You’re supposed to help us attract customers, not drive them away!”
Or instead of cars, how about realtors? Or...?
In effect, the major advertisers would be dragooned as angry and motivated force multipliers that have a direct line to the publisher. And making an example of one, and letting the rest know they may be picked next, would make them sit up and take notice, and use their influence to keep from being drawn in.
Alternatively, gun owners can find any number of reasons to say this won’t work without ever trying, and instead adopt the position that posting negative comments with no workable alternatives on websites is contribution enough to the cause.
Any bets?
