There is more sad news from the nation’s capitol today. Washington, DC is the scene of another shooting this afternoon a little past 2 p.m., within 2 weeks of the D C Navy Yard shooting spree that killed 12 innocent people.
The Washington Post reports that at least one officer was injured in the incident. Details are not yet clear, and it has also been reported that the shooter has been apprehended, or has been killed.
Photos show pedestrians, some with baby carriages, running for shelter or lying on the ground following a series of shots. Police blockaded streets around the White House, the Capitol and other federal buildings.
Chief Kim Dine of the US Capitol Police reported that they believe that this is an isolated incident.
The suspect was reported to be a woman driving a black vehicle with a baby. She was trying to evade police. The chase began in the vicinity of the White House when she crashed into a barrier..
Two people are being treated for injuries at the Washington Hospital Center, possibly including the child in the black vehicle.
An email from a Smithsonian staffer reports that a policeman is dead at the Capitol, and his office has been ordered to shelter in place, but details about police casualties are not yet confirmed.
