Today in this country we are grieving the senseless losses that have occurred due to the incredible numbers of damaged individuals who get their hands on a gun; and in most incidents, several. Many people are up in arms regarding what can be done to stay safe, especially when it comes down to the heart and soul and future of our great nation; our children. Lately the despicable and cowardly acts have hit us much harder, but history tells us that we’re a dollar short and a day late to start thinking about how to solve this problem. This country is no stranger to the terrible acts of violence that are ravaging our nation. "http://www.examiner.com/article/another-day-another-mass-shooting-2" When I wrote this article, I mentioned the history of violence in this country that went back to the 1700s. It seems like we were headed in this direction all along, but now it’s more scary, and we feel much more vulnerable because we see that at any time any of us are at risk and at the mercy of a gunman who decides to take out his rage, anger, or mental instability on the rest of us.
A raging battle is happening right now across this country about guns and whether we all should have them. It’s even being suggested that we should have armed guards in schools to protect our youth. On the other hand, many Americans feel gun control is the answer and that we need to get all guns off the streets and make them non accessible. Another segment of Americans stand by the constitutional right to bear arms and have the attitude that you would have to pry their guns out of their cold dead hands before they give them up. Whatever side you lean toward, in the case of the Georgia mother who shot her unwelcome intruder to save herself and her children; frankly I’m glad she had a gun.
With the occurrence of crime throughout most of our cities, each of us probably feels we have the right to protect our home and our property. The predators who are trying to victimize the rest of us are the ones that need to beware, and in this case where this woman had to hide with her children in a closet while this predator dare enter her home, I have to say he got what he deserved and he’s lucky to be alive. Many people would’ve shot to kill. I hate to think what could have happened to this mother and her two young children had she not had a weapon to defend herself. I’m sure the NRA would think this is a perfect example of why people need to continue to have the right to bear arms.
Random shooters are shooting up malls and schoolyards, movie theaters, fast food restaurants and the list goes on and on. Innocent people everywhere are at a loss to know where a shooter is going to strike next. We can’t just stop our lives and lock ourselves in our homes for fear of not knowing when and where the next unstable individual will strike.
There really is no way of knowing and determining when and where the next random act of violence will occur, which is why I imagine gun-control activists feel strongly about ridding our society of guns. So the battle wages on about which direction this country needs to go in regarding guns and gun control, but I know of one husband who is happy that his wife had a gun and knew how to use it when she came face to face with a criminal. http://kwgn.com/2013/01/06/georgia-mom-hides-children-shoots-intruder-5-times-in-face/
