After reading the latest updates on the Gulf oil spill it is suddenly clear why oil company executives were anxious to pass the buck to each other in yesterday's Congressional hearings. Executives from British Petroleum, Transocean, and Haliburton all blamed each other, but not themselves, for the series of failures that caused the current oil spill. The newest details show that the companies were negligent in drilling the rig and then tried to cover up the mess after the fact. The most dramatic effects of the spill are now being seen as dead dolphins begin to come ashore along the Gulf Coast.
Documents from yesterday's Congressional hearings showed two major faults in the drilling operation before the methane gas explosion. First, the blowout preventer had a major leak in its hydraulic system which may have kept it from shutting off the pipeline. Transocean was operating the rig, but it is not clear who was in charge of making sure the blowout preventer operated properly. In addition, before the explosion the well failed a negative pressure test. Haliburton was in charge of cementing the well and British Petroleum was in charge of the entire drilling plan for the site.
If these details were not bad enough the story gets worse for Transocean. Eleven rig workers died aboard the rig. The survivors were rescued by boat and then brought to shore in Louisiana. Talking Points Memo reports that these survivors were brought to a hotel and asked to sign a legal form only 27 hours after the initial explosion. The form was one page long and essentially asked workers to claim they had no firsthand knowledge of what happened on the rig and that they were not injured as a result of the explosion. The end of the form stated:
"I was not a witness to the incident requiring the evacuation and have no first hand or personal knowledge regarding the incident.
________

I was not injured as a result of he incident of evacuation.
________
(Initials)"
A number of workers ended up signing the forms and are in a fight with Transocean over the legitimacy of the statements.
Finally, the public relations nightmare behind the spill is becoming more real everyday. The most recent story involves the carcasses of six dolphins washing ashore in the Gulf Coast. Tests are being done to see whether the oil could have been the cause behind the deaths. The National Resources Defense Council has released a video showing one pod of dolphins swimming in the oil slick.

Klatoo: Upon first reading your question I said "Who the hell is Maurice Strong?" Then I looked it up. It seems Beck has you all on a witch hunt for this guy. Good luck. I would ask you to keep one thing in mind though.
Beck did not ask you all to find evidence clearing this guy, or to find evidence which disproved his Crime Inc. conspiracy theory. Instead, Beck asked you to find anything incrimination you could find. Ever hear of confirmation bias? If you are looking for something you will generally find it even if it is not there. So one of you will likely find some innocuous statement by Strong, take it out of context, and interpret it as proof that progressive are about to take over the world. The entire time, most of you will never ask whether your "evidence" is really nothing more than circumstantial evidence and speculation. Oh, and why is Beck not questioning the profit incentive of coal and oil companies in defeating climate change legislation? Seems one sided...

Gigi: I guess to rebut I would point you to the "Glenn Beck Raped and Murdered a girl" people. They published their theory, basically saying they think it might be true and that no evidence had come forward Beck DID NOT rape and murder some girl. Beck never publicly refuted, I don't blame him, because he should not be forced to rebut some absurd accusation. In the same way, just because there is no evidence clearing someone it does not mean they are guilty, yet that is the premise Beck works from. He basically says, "they haven't called me so it must be true." When in fact all it means is that they didn't call him because it would only give him more credibility. In addition, Beck roams in the netherworld of conspiracy theories which can never be fully disproven. It is like me accusing Beck of fighting climate change because he is taking money, indirectly, from coal lobbyist. Can you disprove my theory Gigi? If you can't disprove that does that mean it is true?
Gigi: Also, many of Beck's notable claims have been refuted. For example, a key part of Beck's case against Van Jones was that Jones was convicted of two felonies and spent six months in jail. When it was disproven even Beck admitted his error (at the end of his show instead of the beginning as he promises). Beck's faulty claim was then called "minor" and a side issue. Whenever Beck is proven wrong his followers just dismiss it as minor. How many computers have been taken over by Cars.gov? Yet Beck never got called out for that false claim either.

The difference between your 'Beck is a rapist' example and the Maurice Strong example is that Beck isn't trying to smear the man. Beck wants to get at the truth about what's going on. Beck corrected his error about Van Jones, but the point of his Van Jones story was that Obama and his administration had a self proclaimed communist on board. It was about OBAMA! It was about Van Jones being a COMMUNIST, not a felon. Beck has gone over and over this.
The Cars.gov thing is dumb, too. The whole segment was about the 'dealerships' having to go to this nosy website. It's a stretch to think he was trying to make people think their personal computeres would be monitored.

Looked into Strong. I can already see the Beck playbook. Sometime in the coming days he will unveil "shocking material" he got from a viewer. In fact it will be material he already had prepared. He just wanted to pretend it came from a viewer so that he could make it seem more legitimate.
The material will have to do with allegations about corruption. Perfect Beck material in that the allegations were never proven. At the same time Strong was not found innocent, the charges were essentially dropped. So this will allow Beck to go on and on about how this might be true or that might be true and if Strong or Obama could just call him if he was wrong. This is really getting predictable.

President Obama, enough stalling, this month old oil spill is deadly to our environment and economy and there is an ongoing over-up by BP, Congress, and the Mass Media in the name of “transparency”.
