June 7, 2010 – Photographers have captured more images of the destruction of colonial bird nesting grounds near Grand Isle, Louisiana. First came East Grand Terre Island, then Queen Bess Island, now Cat Island in Barataria Bay and Grand Isle. This time, the pictures chronicle the beginning of the end for brown pelican chicks on Cat Island and the fight to save oiled adult birds on Grand Isle.

These pictures tell the story of the environmental devastation brought to the Gulf of Mexico and to Louisiana's wildlife and coastal ecology by the barely controlled rupture of BP's well a mile under the ocean. Even after the latest effort to "cut and cap" the well, each day thousands of barrels of toxic oil continue to pour out.

A sad chapter in environmental history is unfolding as the Gulf of Mexico is being destroyed by this manmade horror. Now called America's worst environmental disaster, its devastation is far greater than the EXXON Valdez catastrophe in Alaska.

To be included in the history of the BP Deepwater Horizon "oil spill" is this quote:

BP Chief Executive Officer told BBC's Andrew Marr on June 6, 2010, "We are going to stop the leak. We're going to clean up the oil. We're going to remediate any environmental damage and we are going to return the Gulf Coast to the position it was in prior to this event. That's an absolute commitment, and we will be there long after the media has gone making good on our promises."
