Gulf oil spill disaster and Biblical prophecy: Is there a connection?
A number of websites and news organizations have begun to relate the Gulf oil spill with predictions of disaster as told in the book of Revelations in the Christian Bible.
Is it crazy doom and gloom theory? Or is there something to it?
Revelation 8:8–11. “The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea became blood, a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed … A third of the waters became wormwood, and many died from the water, because it was made bitter.”
Apart from the spiritual beliefs of individuals, there are similarities in what we are able to see in the Gulf of Mexico now, and what was written then.
Approximately one-third of Gulf waters are now off limits to fishing, and many images of the oil spill resemble an ominous river of red. Thousands of uncounted sea creatures have died and the numbers are still rising. Some patches of surface oil have been set on fire and BP plans to burn more.
The Christian Bible states that the tribulations in Revelation are “judgements” for the evils of humanity: Greed; hatred; bigotry and discrimination against the poor, among other social and ethical ills; all are spoken against in the Bible. Yet all are found in today’s political and social environment.
The Book of Daniel also describes the “End times” through a series of “visions.”
Daniel 8:17-25. “Understand that the vision concerns the time of the end.” Of evil world leaders it says, “He will cause astounding devastation.. and will cause deceit to prosper and he will consider himself superior.”
There is evidence to suggest that while the middle class continues to shrink and corporate interests seize more power, many of the rich consider themselves superior to the poor. Deceit on the part of lenders and investors was at the heart of the housing market and financial collapse of 2008. As for astounding devastation - one only needs to look as far as the Gulf of Mexico to see the untold catastrophe unfold.
Believers in the Christian Bible have a foundation on which to base their apocalyptic theories as it relates to the Gulf oil spill, along with other foretold events taking place in our world today. “Earthquakes in various places", violence, upheaval, starvation and other natural disasters, are all referenced as signs of the apocalypse in the Books of Revelation and Daniel.
Whether the Gulf oil spill is truly part of Biblical prophecy or a mere coincidence will likely be debated until the answer becomes clear.
Regardless of the basis for the events, there are global problems that tie our world together as never before - for better and for worse, and there are few simultaneous threats that compare to the financial, social and environmental issues we are facing today.
We are living in a time when history cannot repeat itself, because we have never experienced anything like this before.

No.
People have been attributing national disasters to supernatural forces since time began.
If you want to make a Christian turn various colors, just tell them how very pagan their outlook really is with stuff like this. But it's true though, isn't it?
It's no different than throwing virgins into the volcano.

no, thats just what a closed mind like your self wants to think< its a quick answer with out critical thinking produces, look at the world today an then look at the world 100 years ago or even 1000 years ago...... WELCOME TO THE END TIMES< repent, for if god is junk and doesnt exist why is their religion for so long? think about it<
While the events in the gulf resemble the prophecy in Revelation quite well, with the exception of a third of the seas and sea animals dying, if the oil spews out for another year or so that could happen. But we have to read Bible verses in context, this is the second trumpet out of seven. The first trumpet, blown before the second obviously, is in verse seven "The first angel sounded his trumpet, and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled down upon the earth. A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up." Is there anything that has destroyed a third of the earth and burned up a third of all trees and grass? Not to my knowledge, so until we see that materialize, then we will see the true horror of the next trumpet being blown.
No,...what you have are several disasaters in one region over a period of time that will toughen those bodies and will enact civil unrest with the rest of the peoples who turned the other cheek.
The "one third" pertains to the 27% of domestic produced gasoline that comes from the Gulf region alone.
I'm not a christian,..nor a book smart or politically smart person. But I am someone who lives in the Gulf region who is witness to the isolation that the rest of country has bestowed on us ever since hurricane Katrina.
If the Louisiana coast was Haitti, every sea vessel and able bodied american would have been here on the second day and the oil would be cleaned up faster than it floats ashore.
Our state sends hundreds of firefighters to California every year. Hundreds of utility company workers to the north east in the winter.
And yet we get miniscule help when WE have a problem. People here are paying attention and this is strike two as far as we are concerned.
Hey JohnnyO Are you going to wait til all that happens on the mark....by that time, we'll all be "raptured" or souls in heaven/hell. Hope not! After all, those are Divine words that we are supposed to pay attention to AS IT HAPPENS....gradually as those "labour pains" Christ spoke about.
It is sad that BP isn't moving quick enough to contain this oil. Yes, they are containing a little bit of it, but the rest of it is still spewing out. In the mean time, it is still doing horrendous damage to the ecosystem. It will be years before the wildlife recovers. They should get every possible thing they can do to stop this oil. They are talking about drilling 2 releif wells, but that is not going to happen until August. So that means the oil will still be spewing out. So what then? What are they going to do with it. Perhaps they need another boat to collect more of the oil. I think they need to consider James Cameron'a ideas, be/c gosh, he just might have something. It is obvious that the CEO doesn't care how much damage is done, or he would be acting quicker. But, he wants his life back, lol. How about the people affected by this environmental disaster. Can they have their life back? The wildlife will suffer a tremendous loss. Only God will get us thru this.
After the vested interests have made the earth unlivable, for a profit of course, what planet do they intend to live on, and do they care for the future of there grandchildren. In nature if one species overpopulates itself and takes over, the balance is disturbed - where is it going to stop or will humanity be stopped. Sad but true, a few greedy businessmen can destroy our only home.
So much so for American's oil addiction. What an irony...what goes around comes around. Now you Americans have all the free oil you want..just dive into the Gulf of Mexico and start panning out oil from the gusher..no need to cap it. All that suffering you gave the world will now come back home for centuries to come. This is just the beginning.
Great article. Thanks for posting.
Lol Barry, yeah it's all the USA's fault...your ignorant and a bigot.

Is there some problem with having oil as an energy source? Why is that evil? we've only been using it for what YEARS! Now it's evil. Is it evil for me to live in the countery and drive into work every day? or should I be forced to live in an inter-city and ride a bike or walk... or ride a subway (O, wait, that would take oil to run...) what about a battery operated car? (O, wait, that takes energy... where does that come from? a power plant, and how do they make their electric? From OIL!) What hypocrites who hate the use of oil, when almost all of their power for home, office, or other comes from oil. If one does not like our nations economic reliance on oil, then move to some 3rd world country that does not have such a blessing and then they can complain about us, and people like me won't have a problem w/ them.
oil is deemed evil by some because it is a devistating pollutant to our air, the ozone layer, the plants and animals and our water-cycle ( rain, ground water, oceans, rivers, streams.) It was a pollutant BEFORE the oil spill. It also pollutes our bodies. ( we are 90-something % water) And of course corporate greed involved with oil is undebatable. Maybe you have a right as a 1st class citizen in a first class country to drive your car to work everyday as ALLOWED to you by your citizen ship in this country. But did you ever consider that no one ever was GIVEN the right by any man or document, the right to destroy what belongs to all of us ; what belongs to even the people in 3rd world countries. That which is beyond you and bigger than you and your job. that which is the health and sanctity of this planet, our home. We have a responsibility to watch out for the planet and see that it does not fall victim to any toxic harm, caused by oil or no.
Psalm 14:1
The fool has said in his heart,
There is no God.... The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men. To see if there are any who understand, who seek God. They have all turned aside. They have together become corrupt...
with all the rigs around the world...and they have never thought of a solution for such an event? i mean honestly? another bilderberg staged event...its sad a few men can stage events of great devastation for profit. the end times are among us...listen to the signs of the times.
Todd, it's not the "oil" that's evil - it's mankind. If this turns out to be a fulfilled prophecy, which I do think it will - this is only one of many more to come. If you're interested, read Daniel and Revelation in the KING JAMES BIBLE - any other so called "bible" is nothing but man written and not inspired by God - you'll learn many, many things, and will know what's coming ahead for us.
Repent while there is still time - the door to Heaven won't remain open forever.

This would indicate the blowing of the Trumpets spoken of in Revelation. Trumpets 2,3, and 5 would all be related to the Macondo Well in the gulf. A 'star' falling would simply mean a disaster occurring on earth here. Disaster means 'bad star'. Upon the 5th apparently the seafloor collapses and some sort of unknown plaques are released upon humanity or fallen angels(posing as aliens coming to save mankind); I'm not sure.
The blowing of the trumpets on up to the 6th trumpet are wake up calls for the world. Once the last trumpet is blown it will be too late and those left will suffer the wrath of God which are the 'bowls' and 'vials' poured out.
Interesting tidbit here: 'Crude Oil' is 'Neft' in Hebrew which means;'spirit of the underground'.
JohnnyO >As a matter of fact, yes a third of the trees and grass are getting burned up by fire. Not all at the same exact time or place as you would expect. Its sporadic. Look at the fires in Greece, California(every single summer), and as of today we see Arizona is having wildfires. So yes, Trumpet 1 has been blown.
*Remember that we see through a glass darkly, but John saw all of these things from the spiritual level. We will only see the actual manifestation from the trumpets.
could be a end gamer. Maybe it has some loose interpretations that could have been seen by biblical figures, but as you see the world is still turning and the oil is still gushing. Theres nothing us sinners who are going to hell can do to stop the oil from coming out. Wish we could, but for those people who think that they are repented christians, and have nothing to do with the worlds problems. I laugh. I laugh so loud! and then say that you are lukewarm, and god will spit you out.
This is a tragedy. However you look at it. Whatever you believe. Our planet is being destroyed. So sad...
I think Isaiah 24-26 is a clearer prophetic passage regarding the oil spill and supports a post-millennial interpretation:
Is 24:3-6 -- "The earth will be completely laid waste and completely despoiled, for the Lord has spoken this word....The earth is also polluted by its inhabitants, for they transgressed laws, violated statutes, broke the everlasting covenant....Therefore, a curse devours the earth ."
Our sin is not against the environment, but against God, for rejecting His law and pretending He does not see our countless murders, thefts, and immoralities. When Cain slew Able, God said, "your brother's blood cries out to Me from the ground." Cain then became a wanderer in the earth. In other words, when the earth/land becomes morally polluted by its inhabitants, the just punishment of God is to have the land spew out its inhabitants.
There is further exposition of this passage in the "News & Views" page at America-Betrayed-1787.com website.
The wrath of God is reserved for non-believers. They will be under the Law of Moses, but not those who are saved through their belief in Jesus Christ(Yahshua Messiah).Galatians 2:21
I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
The 6 Trumpets are wake up calls for the inhabitants of the earth. The 7th is when Jesus removes his people from the planet before the wrath of God is poured out. This will be a terrible time from here on out. Out from this oil gusher will arise the 'Beast System'. I think it could be the 'Cap and Trade'law, but regardless of whether I am right or wrong, it will be environmentally centered. BP has vestments in just about every "Green" Organization out there.
Theres talk of an evacuation and Martial law. Its raining oil(fire) and chemicals(brimstone) in Louisiana. Methane is all in the Gulf of Mexico and theres cracks appearing on the seafloor which could collapse.
Just remember John 3:16.
remember what God promised Abraham in Gen. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. obama says the US wont support Israel any longer, Israel's independance day.... is Ohya guess what ?? the same day the tupperware lid popped off the salad bowl!!
" We should hate ourselves for being so dependent on something as disgusting and deplorable as fossil fuels. We did this to ourselves. We did this to our children. We don't deserve anything better than this lot we've been cast. By our selfish sword we draw the blood of the... innocent."
Historian Jason Cooper~
As we enter one of the most aggressive hurricane seasons on record, I cannot even imagine what a hurricane would do with oil in the Gulf of Mexico. Dealing with oil on the beach is one thing, but what if we had to deal with it in our streets, in our businesses, in our homes? What if we had to rescue humans covered in oil? What if this is no longer isolated to just the Gulf Coast but found its way up the great rivers to our inner cities? Now imagine if you will, the dispersants mixed with oil which could possibly cause untold diseases and catastrophic health hazards of a biblical proportion. It staggers the imagination, or is it prophetic? What if we are dealing with the wrath of God? Author of the book Final Warning
Trust Americans to assume something that affects only one country is a sign of the end of the world. It's going to take a tew more oil spills to cover 1/3 of the world's oceans and kill 1/3 of the world's sea creatures.
That's not to say this isn't awful. Just give us enough time and I'm sure humankind can mess up 1/3rd of the world's oceans.
Actually the Gulf of Mexico is the 7th most important body of water in the world. The microbes and plankton in the marshes of Louisiana are a huge part of the planets eco-system. Be certain that the oil will make its way into the bays and onto the Atlantic Ocean. Also note that China is having a crisis with the algae thats destroying their water. With a hurricane or even the acid rains this will spread inland into rivers and lakes as well.
Ought to be here in Fort Walton Beach right now with the smelly oily rain. Smells like a gas station outside and many complaining of headaches. No you won't find this on CNN or FNC.
This is not the Wrath of God folks. This is mans doing and this is what will bring on the wrath of God. The Trumpets are to wake up mankind before the wrath comes.
No wonder God compares mankind to sheep as most are so stupid just like sheep.
Every bible thumping tard has a spaz attack after every volcano/earthquake/nuke/election/etc.
You think because you devote your life to a man-made god that you're going to escape these horrific happenings?! Whatever helps you sleep at night.
Whether or not you beleive in the Bible does not change the fact that it is the truth.......
The Authorized Holy Bible IS The Eternal Written Word Of GOD: That's A FACT Of Faith.
The Media & Press News Reports & Photographs On The Oil Spill In The Gulf Of Mexico Are The Temporal Words & Images Of/From Men: Which Have The Appearance Of Being Observed & Testified-To "FACTS" & Are ALSO To Be Believed & Received By "Faith" !
"Now FAITH Is The SUBSTANCE Of Things Hoped For; The EVIDENCE Of Things NOT Seen."--HEBREWS 11:1
I Personally Have NOT SEEN The Oil That Is Reported To Have Been Spilt &-Or Is STILL Spilling In The Gulf Of Mexico--But I Believe It's SO By My Exercising My FAITH.
As Even ATHEISTS Practice, Experience & EXERCISE Faith--Especially Faith In THEMSELVES More Than MY FAITH IN ALMIGHTY GOD !
IT WOULD BE FOOLISH FOR ANYONE TO DENY THAT THERE WAS EVER AN OIL SPILL IN THE GULF OF MEXICO SINCE APRIL OF 2010--
AS IT IS EVEN MORE FOOLISH TO DENY THAT THERE IS INDEED AN ALMIGHTY GOD & HIS WRITTEN WORD: WHICH IS ONLY FOUND IN THE 66 BOOKS OF THE HOLY BIBLE.
Love how people now have to be told that the Bible is a Christian book. People used to know that--it was common knowledge.
By Tom Schmelzer, Friend of Israel, friend of a friend: "What I have learned over the past few weeks concerning the BP oil spill in the Gulf has shaken me more than any event weve discussed over the course of the entire 21st century.
The information being withheld, if true, is so catastrophic that it is literally a case of the country not being able to handle the truth. That said, Ive done my level best to confirm the following information but the political smokescreen surrounding it leaves me with less than 100% confidence but only slightly less. I could be taken in by a hoax and I pray that is the case, but I dont think so.
BP estimates that the oil reservoir pouring into the Gulf could contain as much as two billion barrels of oil, currently spewing out at something on the order of 100,000 to 160,000 gallons per day. At that rate, the spill, if left uncapped, could continue to foul the Gulf for four years before running dry. (Cont.)
(Cont.) And it appears that capping the well is not and never has been an option. Because of the pressure, capping the wellhead would rupture the well pipe causing oil to flood out into the strata below the sea floor. The erosion process would cause the oil to erupt through the sea bed creating a literal and unstoppable volcano of oil and mud. When the Deepwater Horizon exploded, it ruptured the well pipe a mile beneath the surface. With pressures that could be as high as 100,000 psi, plugging the well will force the oil out into the seabed floor and only meters from a large methane gas bubble some 15 to 20 miles wide. Even if they do nothing, eventually that methane bubble will migrate to the well. When that happens, it will explode up the well pipe creating the same catastrophe as if they plugged it. Unless BPs relief well effort can relieve the pressure, when that gas bubble hits the pipe it presents one of two scenarios, both of which are unthinkably catastrophic.
(Cont.) (And BP is rumored to have quietly advanced their expected completion date for the relief well to sometime around Christmas.)
In the first and seemingly most catastrophic, the gas explodes under the sea floor, creating a massive upheaval and collapse that could trigger a tsunami that could wash away the Gulf Coast up to fifty miles inland.
In the second, the escaping cloud of deadly methane gas could be blown ashore, displacing the oxygen and suffocating uncounted Gulf Coast residents. The sudden rush of gas to the surface could also theoretically trigger a tsunami.
Former Shell Oil CEO John Hofmeister confirmed on Fox News last week that the use of high explosives and possibly a small nuclear device are being considered as a last resort on the theory that the blast would crush the borehole and seal it.
But it has never been done and nobody knows for sure if it will work or if it will trigger an even greater underground explosion.
(cont.) It gets worse. There are roughly 3400 active drilling platforms out in the Gulf, many of which have been there for decades. When a well runs dry, they move the platform to another honey hole until it runs dry. This means there are uncounted numbers of vast empty underground caverns beneath the sea floor of the Gulf. Most of these drilling rigs are sucking oil from the same ultimate giant oil deposit under the Gulf of Mexicos continental shelf, meaning they are all interconnected.
When you take something out and dont replace it with something else, it dramatically alters the dynamics under the seafloor. These cracks and fissures could collapse in a domino effect in the event of an underground explosion, either natural or man-made, also triggering the risk of a Gulf tsunami.
(cont) Assessment:
Admittedly, these are worst-case scenarios, but there are no best-case scenarios under consideration. Oil contains chemicals and volatile gases that are both toxic and carcinogenic. Gulf Coast residents that are able to smell the heavy oil are undoubtedly breathing in these gases at the same time.
There are persistent rumors of a FEMA plan to evacuate at least eighteen cities along the Gulf Coast. In April, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal asked the feds to fund 6000 soldiers and airmen on active duty to:
provide security, medical capabilities, engineers and communication support in response to this threat. Currently, our Soldiers and Airmen are staging for and are engaged in the planning of the effort to evacuate and provide security and clean up for the coastal communities expected to be impacted by the oil spill.
On June 9th the FAA closed the airspace over the Gulf of Mexico to all unauthorized aircraft. There is now a 200 mile radius dead zone in the
(cont) There is a risk of toxic rain resulting from the combination of methane and the poisonous Corexit oil dispersant. FEMA officials fear it will poison coastal fresh water reservoirs, lakes, streams and rivers.
Let me say now that most of this is rumored, but if FEMA DOESNT have evacuation plans in place for the Gulf Coast, then FEMA is criminally derelict in its duties.
And I cannot envision a scenario short of permanently capping the well by lunchtime today that wont ultimately require the evacuation of at least some of the Gulf Coast shoreline.
I am trying very hard not to get all conspiracist or overly sensational in todays report and it is hard not to sound like Ive lost my mind even I think it sounds a little nuts. Until you look at the situation and try and come up with an alternative scenario that doesnt.
This old earth is in already in a state of mass upheaval; earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis are practically daily affairs somewhere on the earth. T
(cont.) The word catastrophic applies to practically every scenario, financial, political, environmental or extra-terrestrial. It is hard to see how humanity will manage to elude all the looming threats and emerge intact on the other side.
Particularly since ALL of it was forecast in advance as part and parcel of the overall scenario that points to the soon return of Christ.
Revelation 8:8-9 forecasts the third part of the seas will become as blood, killing a third part of the creatures in the sea. That judgment is followed by the poisoning of a third part of the worlds fresh water.
Jesus warned of signs in the sun, moon and stars. He said that unfolding events would cause mens hearts to fail them with fear and cause the nations to cower in fear and confusion.
But Jesus said that while these things will confuse and terrorize the lost, He said they should be signs of encouragement to the Church.
What it means is that the world will soon see the Son of Man coming in power
(cont.) But having given the broad outline through to the end, Jesus got down to specifics insofar as what it means to the Church on this side of the Tribulation. We are witnessing the conspiracy of seemingly unconnected events that are leading precisely to the conditions Jesus described.
But His message to the Church isnt the same message He gave to those who will be preserved through the Time of Jacobs Trouble.
And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. (Luke 21:28)
For the Church, the message is both simple and direct. When we see these things BEGIN to come to pass, then its time to prepare for lift off! (By Tom Schmelzer, copied by me, Israel46)

YES I SAW THAT ITS I HEARD WAS ONE MILLION BARRELS A DAY AND NOW ITS 500,000 BARRELS YA A DAY,45 GALLONS IS IN A BARREL THAT LIKE OVER 60 MILLION GALLONS YA ,MISSISSIPPI RIVER GO INTO ALL STATES YA THEY SEEING OIL IN WATER ALSO WAS VIRUSES IN JACKSON WATER THEY TRYING CLEAN OUT,WE ALL F BADLY CAUSE A FISHERMEN SHOT HIMSELF DEAD HOW BAD IT IS ALSO ,A GUY SAID A EARTH MANTLE WAS HIT TO HARD BY THE DRILLING MACHINE AND IT CANT BE STOPPED ONLY GOD CAN DO THE STOPPING,LIKE CHRIST SAID UNLESS MY FATHER DO SOMETHING ALL WILL PERISH BUT CAUSE ELECT HE DO SOMETHING START HIS CRYSTAL EMPIRE SEEN BY EZEKIEL YA HE SAW GOD CHARIOTS AND GOD ON EARTH LIKE HE WAS IN MOSES DAY HE GLOWED AND ANGELS GLOWED THEY HAD CHARIOTS AND THE BEAST WAS TRYING FIGHT GOD BUT LOST,SEE MICAH 1-AMOS GOD TAKE THE EARTH OVER AND TEACH NEW LAW AND RULES ALSO INCREASE LIFE ALSO HE CHANGE US AND GOD DESTROY ALL WEAPONS,GOD KINGDOM SEEN ON TOP MOUNT OLIVES YA CHRIST AND APOSTLES WAS TAKEN UP BY CHARIOT CLOUD
After weeks of refusing to listen to anything related to this oil disaster, "out of the blue" (I call it Holy Spirit revelation) I asked myself if it could have anything to do with Biblical prophecy. At first I said "No, because 1/3 of the earth had not burned up" as required by the 1st TRUMPET (the oil would be 2nd Trumpet) & I assume John knew his ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc). HOWEVER, after more research I found there are many fires burning throughout the world AND I found an article dated 2003 "Fires Are Increasingly Damaging the World's Forests" Google it. That WOULD be the 1st Trumpet. I FULLY believe this oil disaster is the 2nd bowl/trumpet. As well Rev 16:3"The second angel poured out his bowl into the sea, and it became like the blood of a corpse, and every living thing died that was in the sea." What do the brown "blobs" of oil look like? CLOTTED BLOOD--the blood of a "corpse." kaydee_37@yahoo.com
All this really scares me seriously.
Even if a person does not believe in God or the Bible, he cannot deny the blows that this earth has taken. People call these things natural disasters. There is nothing natural about them. Yes the earth has always been at movement, the plates shift. The earths surface has been blasted, drilled and chemicals have been let go in certain layers of the earth in the name of progress. There are millionairs to prove it.
Well, didn't we need fuel? There has been billions and billions of dollars spent in space exploration. If they can put men in outer space, then why couldn't they find a way to produce clean fuel that would help all people? There were men who figured out how to get fuel at the cost of the earth and people. These men filled there pockets. So what if it damages the earth and people down the road. Most of those men are dead. It's not their problem anymore.
