Gulf Coast USBC, your bowling association

Gulf Coast your bowling association has sent to the bowling centers and secretaries the Adult Hall of Fame applications and the applications for Director positions on our board. The youth Hall of Fame are on the website and will be in centers by the end of this week.

Gulf Coast hopes you turn in your favorite bowler. Do you know someone who you think is deserving of the Hall of Fame? You are able to download the application on their website at www.gcusbc.org . Last year’s inductees into the Hall of Fame were for achievement Steve Felsman & Gary Halstrom and for Meritorious service went to Don Vauiso & Juanita Motsinger. Applications are due on March 1st. The Hall of Fame chairperson & Gulf Coast President and past Hall of Fame members will vote for the new Hall of Fame members. If you go to their website, you will see who the past Hall of Fame members are.

There are 3 Vice President positions & 7 director position openings on the Gulf Coast USBC board. What do you do as a Vice President? You are assigned a house, and you take care of that house, hand out awards, let the house know you are there if they need anything, make sure tournament flyers are out for bowlers, and talk to bowlers, let them know if they have a problem, they can come see you. Along with helping out at tournaments, charity events, and help promoting tournaments. What do you do as a director? You hand out awards at the centers, help out at tournaments, and learn how to do brackets for tournaments, pick up paperwork at the centers, and promote tournaments, charity events. Gulf Coast has 4 meetings each year. They have committees such as budget, audit, charity, tournaments, publicity, brackets, ways & means, and there is a chairperson for each committee and then committee members. You meet periodically to go over whatever your committee is about. It is a lot of fun. And you learn a lot as well. If you are elected to the board, and have an interest in becoming a delegate, and representing Gulf Coast you can apply for the position as delegate for Florida State USBC BA Jamboree and the Florida State USBC WBA Annual Meeting & the Florida State USBC Youth Annual Meeting and the USBC Annual Meeting.

Their annual meeting is April 20th at 1 pm. Your secretary was mailed a letter asking that a delegate be voted on to attend the annual meeting, for voting purposes such as voting for Vice Presidents and Directors and also for voting for changes from USBC. Walt Davis, President, myself, 2nd VP & James Strickler, 4th VP are going to Reno for the bowling convention to vote for the changes that we will present to you to vote on. USBC lets us know what changes are being proposed and we put “our bowlers vote in”. When we return we will let bowlers know what the outcome of the annual meeting was. At this meeting, the Hall of Fame Inductees are inducted into the Hall of Fame. We try to make it as short as possible.

On February 16 & 17th, we will be having the Youth Championship Tournament being held at Twedt’s Center. Youth bowlers, get your entry forms in. All our tournaments, except the Classic & Strikers Club are walk in tournaments. But it is always based on lane availability.

On March 9 & 10th we will be having our Open Championship Tournament being held at Twedt’s. On April 6 & 7th we will be having the Women & Men’s Championship Tournament being held at Ten Pins. This is two separate tournaments, one weekend.

On April 27 & 28th we will be having our Strikers Club Tournament. It will be a bit different than last year, a lot more divisions. If you visit the website, www.gcusbc.org and go to Strikers club you can see if you qualified. In order to qualify men/boys have to bowl 3 game series of 210 games or better. And ladies/girls you have to bowl 170 or better in a 3 game series. This year’s tournament will be held at Seminole Lanes. Also if you qualify you will get an invitation entry form.

May 11 – June 30, is The 79th Annual Florida State USBC BA Open Tournament. This tournament is run by Bob Peters, association mgr. for Florida State BA. Entry deadline is March 30th, so get the forms and fill them out before it is too late.

June 29-30 is the Champion of Champions tournament and it will be held at Twedt’s. The entry forms will be sent out to the secretaries. So be sure close to the end of the year you ask your secretary about them. Even if the first place team does not want to bowl, it is a 5 person team, so any 5 people that want to bowl can. The entry fee is $75 this year. Some leagues, vote into their prize fund to send a team to this event, some leagues do not.
