Guinness backs gays

As reported by CNN.com, beer maker Guinness pulled its involvement in the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

In previous years, openly gay and lesbian groups have been banned from marching.

Guinness pulled its sponsorship Sunday afternoon avoiding an anti-Guinness protest by Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender advocacy group GLAAD that was scheduled for Monday.

Guinness was quoted by CNN.com saying ”We were hopeful that the policy of exclusion would be reversed for this year's parade. As this has not come to pass, Guinness has withdrawn its participation.”

The announcement came just days after Heineken and Samuel Adams pulled their sponsorships of the annual Boston parade.
