Guillermo del Toro reveals DC's "Dark Universe"

IGN interviewed director Guillermo del Toro this Monday about his upcoming film "Mama"and in the process, Guillermo del Toro revealed that he's working on basically an adaptation of the comic book series Justice League Dark.

Guillermo del Toro said that he has found "the perfect writer" to develop the script, which features DC's Vertigo characters like Swamp Thing, Zatanna, Zatara, the Demon, John Constantine, Deadman, and the Spectre. Unfortunately, Guillermo del Toro did not mention the writer's name, only confirming that del Toro is working on the outline for the film himself and that the working title is "Dark Universe".

In regards to its production status, Guillermo del Toro said that, “The movement for this happened before [the Avengers] even. They were already galvanized to launch Justice League and and to make their universe cohesive. What I feel now is that they are really really—with Superman they feel very, very confident about what they have. They have two pillars, Batman and Superman for the DC universe. Tonally, they are finding they have a darker tone, an urban and sophisticated tone. Now they can build their foundation and they can build the building. I’m very excited and hopefully it will happen.”

While Warner Bros. seems to have an increasing interest in the project, Guillermo del Toro did caution that this isn't a done deal. Still, it's pretty exciting to imagine a director like Guillermo del Toro putting his stamp on DC's Vertigo characters.
