Love him or hate him, Ozzie Guillen always has an opinion. The former Sox skipper was able to share some of those beliefs yesterday when he met with the Miami media to discuss the upcoming 2012 season. And it didn’t take long before questions about his Chicago ties emerged, specifically new Marlins starter Carlos Zambrano (credit: Chicago Sun-Times for transcribing):
“I have people in Venezuela betting to see when’s the first time me and Carlos are going to fight. He did a lot of bad things in Chicago. He was out of hand. He was kind of like phony. But Carlos is a great guy. He’s healthy. He’s hungry. He’s going to show people who Carlos Zambrano is.”
One of the biggest question marks heading into spring training for Miami is the move of all-star shortstop Hanley Ramirez to third base after singing fellow all-star shortstop Jose Reyes this offseason. So how is Han-Ram adjusting?
“I don’t think he’s 100-percent on board. Not yet. I don’t expect him to be.
“This is Hanley’s team. Those guys they brought from outside are to help him to win the championship. When you lose it’s not fun to come to the ballpark. That happened to Hanley a lot.”
The Marlins should be much improved from the club that finished last in the NL East in 2011. Overcoming the NY Mets shouldn’t be hard, but finding the depth to unseat the Phillies, Nationals, and Braves won’t be easy for Ozzie and company.
