With all the hype about Guild Wars 2, it’s hard to sit down and think about when and what Guild Wars 3 might be. It’s unlikely that there will be a Guild Wars 3 anytime in the next few years, especially considering the stance that ArenaNet had toward Guild Wars 2. [Elder Scrolls Online is coming to PC]
The only reason that there is a Guild Wars 2 is because ArenaNet had planned so many upgrades to Guild Wars, they decided they might as well just start from scratch. If it were not for that, they would have instead just added patches and expansions for Guild Wars, rather than make an entire new game.
It’s for this reason that Guild Wars 3 isn’t likely to hit the shelves anytime in the next few years; however, chances are, after 5+ years ArenaNet may have to make a new GuildWars in order to upgrade it alongside technology yet again. Until then, Guild Wars 2 isn’t a completely stale game at all; in fact, ArenaNet has a full team hired to continually add content to Guild Wars 2 in order to keep it alive and running. They want to keep Guild Wars 2 as a continually living world in which change happens practically every day, at least that’s the theory.
If Guild Wars 3 ever becomes a possible reality, this page will update and reflect those announcements, so check back every so often and see if anything’s changed.
