Huge Asuran golems, stone-hurling trebuchets, massive keeps to siege, and hundreds of players battling across the largest battlefields in Guild Wars 2 are only a few aspects of the game's world versus world combat. Today, Mike Ferguson gives gamers all the goods on world versus world and what they can expect from this feature of GW2.
In the blog post, Ferguson covers almost everything a player needs to know about WvW. It's a good read that's quite lengthy, but here are some highlights. In brief, WvW is about three different servers coming together to battle for the Mists; the huge battleground where WvW takes place. This battle takes two weeks to conclude, and at the end of war, War Scores are tallied. This War Score decides the server's rank so that similarly ranked servers can be matched against each other in the next battle. Down time between wars is a matter of minutes so a WvW battle is always engaged.
Gaining dominance on the battlefield is done in several ways. Massive amounts of players can go after keeps, small groups can tackle towers, and "a handful of players" can go after resource camps. All these objectives are important in their own way and provide something to the cause. For example, resource camps provide supply. Supply is something that is used for siege weapons, repairing damaged walls, and buying upgrades for the server's structural properties or personnel.
Excited about WvW now but worried about the level requirements? Don't be. WvW is accessible at level 1. Players will be bumped up to level 80 in order to be viable in battle; however, a level 1 is still considerably weaker than a level 80. Choosing fights and objectives wisely is key to fighting in WvW at a low level.
There's much more to WvW than what's listed here. Be sure to read the entire ArenaNet blog for more information on WvW.
