Tom Waits is the guest editor of the200th issue of Mojo magazine, scheduled to reach newsstands in the U.K. on Tuesday. Among the many treats promised are two specifically of interest to Bob Dylan fans.
The first is an exclusive CD that is included with every issue:
FREE CD! STEP RIGHT UP!: A 15-track musical journey compiled and sequenced exclusively for MOJO by Tom Waits! Starring Bob Dylan, Howlin’ Wolf, Ray Charles, Harry Belafonte, Cliff Edwards, Big Mama Thornton, Prisonaires, Hank Williams and many, many more.
Also featured is an interview with Harry Belafonte:
HARRY BELAFONTE: In this month’s MOJO Interview, one of Waits’ lifelong heroes talks marching with Dr King, being taught by Leadbelly and giving Bob Dylan his first break. “His contribution to the world of music has been like a great river,” says your guest editor. Superstar producer Joe Henry is granted a rare audience with Harry Belafonte.
Waits and Dylan have been friends and mutual admirers for many years. Tom's music was frequently played on Theme Time Radio Hour, and he even offered his unique commentary on numerous occasions. Dylan also jokingly introduced Waits at a couple of concerts last year, only to have guitarist Stu Kimball sing truncated versions of "Jesus Gonna Be Here" and "San Diego Serenade".
Just for fun: Tom Waits on "Fernwood 2Nite", with Martin Mull and Fred Willard, 1977

So-Happy Birthday, Mr. Bob. Imagine: half the globe wishing you happy birthday!!
I have two reason to thank Mr. Bob. One happy. One sad. Happy: He rewarded a drawing my brother sent with a ticket application when he finally returned to the stage, with front row center tickets. (I knew then: art-guy). Sad: 1984 my parents died within weeks of each other. The only voice I could stand-was Mr. Bob's. (healer-guy). HAVE FUN, & Th
