Here at Home and Living we love, love, love Fall. Did I mention we love Fall?  And I just so happened to convince lovely interior designer, world traveler, and bon vivant stylist, Andrea Evans, to act as our Editor today, writing about:

Sophisticated Design Trends for Fall 2010

1. Modern sophistication is huge this year. To create this look, couple black with touches of white, silver, and a specific color. Use tiles, upholstered headboards, crystal chandeliers, and stunning, unique accessories to construct a rich, opulent atmosphere.

2. Magnificent past design influences from China, India, Morocco, Persia, Russia, and the Native Americans inspire us to use “pop-color.” Using dramatic antique rugs, pillows, and even couches gives a room character. Decorating with traditional symbols such as Buddha, Old-World Asian warriors, and Fu Dogs saturated with a touch of modernity creates a dramatic, classy appeal.

3. Shimmer & Glimmer! Embellishments of glass, mirrors, crystal, and metallics add splendor and distinguish to accessories and furniture. Buy accessories and furnishings with personality. Decorations with glitz and shimmer are eye-catching and timeless.

4. There are four renowned patterns that stick out above them all: houndstooth, stripes of all kinds, Greek Key, and the bubble. These patterns reign over the lighting, textiles, tabletop, home accessories, and furniture of 2010. Although these patterns are lots of fun, be careful not to overdo it! When using more than one pattern in a single room, make sure that each piece has a standard color. Also make sure not to use too much pattern; be courageous, yet careful when using patterns!

5. Due to the economy, “staycations” are becoming more and more popular. Driven by the need for relaxation and peace, home owners have been creating lush, resort-like outdoor living areas in their own backyards. Install full kitchens, flat-screen televisions, wine refrigerators, furniture and fashionable rugs and accessories specially made for the outdoors to create your very own outdoor sanctuary!
