When it comes to word games, there is a lot of "been there, done that." How many different ways can scrambled letters or words be presented that hasn't already been done?
Guess the News has an answer for that in its Hangman-like game that involves guessing actual news headlines. Players are given a stack of letter tiles, a headline with many letters missing (in the hard settings, all of the letters), and a small snippet of the article at the bottom. From that, players have to correctly place the letters as quickly as possible. If you make a mistake, you don't earn as many points. If you take to long to place letters, you don't earn many points.
Why try to earn points? Well other than wanting to feel good, earning points fills up your completing bar on the left. In order to progress to the next puzzle, you must fill the bar to a certain level.
The only complaint I have about this game is that since it takes all of the headlines from multiple live news feeds, some of the headlines repeat themselves. It's a bonus for you when this happens, but it's still a little disappointing at the same time.
On the flip side, the multiple live news feeds are what makes the game so great. You will never play the same game twice, even if you play multiple times on the same day. Also, you can learn about what is going on in the world, from international news, national news, finance, sports, or top stories without having to watch the news or read a newspaper. This is the most fun way I've found to stay informed yet.
This is one of the most original word games out there, and the fact that it's a little educational gives it a nice bonus. If you don't like educational games, you should probably stay away from all word games in general, especially this one.
