Guerlain Spa beauty expert reveals secrets for looking sensational in 2014

Amanda Gabbard, beauty expert and makeup specialist at the Guerlain Spa in the Towers of the Waldorf Astoria New York shared her secrets for looking sensational in 2014 with your Destination Spas Examiner.

Glam up at Guerlain
  • Go milky white-- “Now that 2014 has officially begun, gone are the 2013 trends of the 'Smokey Eye' paired with a nude lip and the 'Classic Hollywood' beauty look. Instead, we are coming upon an interesting look with a milky white fresh face (no bronzer at all!) with either the eyes or lips giving the pop of color.” For this new look, begin with a bold eye. Instead of layering multiple colors (such as with the Smokey Eye) use one bold sweep of color (neon, gold, fuchsia and cobalt blues are a hit!). This look is achieved with bold thick swipes on the top and bottom of the eye. Swipe a pale shadow over the entire eye and line with a 'white' shimmer eyeliner. Match this look with a matte pale lip or, for the more adventurous, a bold lip color.
  • Lose the gloss--“We are also coming into a 'non' gloss era, and the look this year is completely matte. With that said, as far as colors go – the sky is the limit! Bright orange hues and burnt gold sienna colors are the hit of spring! Thankfully the Guerlain line has shades of all the popular colors for 2014.”
  • Pamper yourself--“Treat yourself to a spa day. If you’re in New York head to our Guerlain Spa in the Towers of the Waldorf Astoria . Start with steam then indulge in a one-of-a-kind treatment personalized for you. . Need hydrating during the winter? Try the moisturizing Winter Warm-Up. Sore and wind-blown after a recent ski trip? Experience the “Waldorf As You Wish” massage featuring a hot-stone treatment and then enjoy the new Abeille Royale Youth Facial to soothe wind-burned skin. Take some personal time this year and unwind in the Grand Salon sipping a beverage of choice while lounging in a plush robe and slippers.”
  • DIY at home. Turn on some soothing music, lighting candles (“I recommend Dana Deckers”) and soak in a bubble bath. Add 'Kneipp' bath salts and 'Primavera' body oils for the ultimate relaxation experience. Also use Moroccan hair treatments such as the Hydrating Cream Hair Mask in the shower as opposed to spending a small fortune on a Keratin treatment. Give yourself a facial with Guerlain’s exfoliator, Secret de Purete, to eliminate dead then apply the Super Aqua Hydrating Mask to calm the skin and replenish it with moisture. Last, coat the face and neck with Guerlain’s famous Orchidée Impériale Cream and let this product work its magic recharging cells and smoothing fine lines.”
