On Saturday, June 8, 2013, Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) will host an event that will make every willing man, woman and child who likes to get creative and play with chalk into a Haiku Agent in the FREE Guerilla Haiku Movement experience.
"Art’s as simple as
Getting up in the morning
Be a great artist." – Caley Vickerman
Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry that consists of 3 lines totaling 17 syllables, with 5 syllables in the first line, 7 in the second, and 5 in the third.
“Our Executive Artistic Director Raymond Bobgan attended TCG’s Audience (R)Evolution Conference, and while there, Hand2Mouth Theatre recommended the Haiku Mistress [Caley Vickerman] as a great way to facilitate audience engagement,” says Emily Ritger, CPT’s New Play Associate. Ritger also notes that it’s the first time this event has been in Cleveland, and that she’ll be participating.
Haiku Mistress Caley Vickerman will be bringing her creative light and passion for haiku to Cleveland to lead the day. All ages, experiences and professions are encouraged to join for a fun day of making friends, making art, and making art with friends.
The event will involve teams of 3-5 (or create your own team) for 4 hour shifts (between 10am and 10pm). What follows? A good-natured competition against the other teams of volunteers to see which crew can get the most people to write haiku with them. Yes. Haiku. In public. Everywhere. Gordon Square look out!
Each team will have the following -
- A scavenger hunt list divided into People, and Places (people to get to write haiku, and places to write haiku)
- A few buckets of sidewalk chalk
- Specific team roles to help move each group through the action in an organized way and includes leaders, engagers and poets.
Not sure how it all will work? There will be a training and debrief on Friday, June 7 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. to go over some ideas on how to engage people, and do some "pre-kuing" in the space as a warm up.
