Libertarian Party of Florida Gubernatorial candidate Adrian Wyllie will be in Miami, Florida today, May 24, 2014 to participate in the March Against Monsanto movement happening worldwide. Several Libertarian Party members across the state are also participating in the effort to educate the public about Monsanto's political stranglehold on agriculture through crony capitalism. Libertarians support capitalism in its purest form; however are strongly against crony capitalism which perverts the free market from operating the way it should.
Wyllie will be speaking at 6:00 p.m. this evening at the March Against Monsanto After Party being held at Mi Vida Cafe, a popular vegan restaurant in downtown Miami. Wyllie is expected to speak about free market solutions, explain the difference between pure capitalism on Monsanto's crony capitalism business model as well as labeling of genetically modified organisms (GMO) in food and beverage products. Other speakers include dietician Adrienne Bolten, Alex Barroso of City Organics and Trish Sheldon of GMO Free Florida.
As we wrote yesterday, Libertarians on the West Coast of Florida will be participating in other March Against Monsanto events (see below under "Suggested by the author"). The Libertarian Party of Collier County will join other groups in a march at Cambier Park in Naples, Florida. Libertarian Party candidate for Florida's Congressional District 19, Ray Netherwood, said he will be attending the event "because I believe 'corn to ethanol' hurts the environment and is a bad government program, Monsanto itself is a crony capitalist venture, and because GMO labeling is a free-market concern to which companies should be responsive to consumer requests."
Netherwood also said he will "be on the Joe Whitehead Radio Show, 98.9 FM, with other Veterans between 10:00 a.m. and noon and starting at 1:00 p.m., I will be at the new Libertarian Party of Lee County Office for a couple of hours, which is at 1815 Fowler Street, in beautiful downtown Fort Myers." There is an open house from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for the new office, and the public is invited.
On Thursday, Libertarian Party of Florida Attorney General candidate Bill Wohlsifer had this to say about GMO labeling, "Libertarians recognize that not all laws are bad. But we apply strict scrutiny to even the most local ordinance. As candidate for Florida Attorney General my position on GMO Labeling laws is not to regulate an industry, but to provide consumer information and protection. I believe consumer protection is a proper role of government and a high priority for the people’s Attorney General."
The After Party in Miami will commence after the March Against Monsanto happening at 2:00 p.m., starting at the Adrienne Arsht Center Metro Mover Station in Downtown Miami. The march will move south along Biscayne Boulevard, making a brief stop in front of the Publix located at NE 18th Terrace, continuing to NE 20th Terrace. Participants will congregate at Margaret Pace Park before returning to Metro Mover Station and the After Party at 5:30 p.m.
