Guardians’ Pledge | Magic 2012

Guardians’ Pledge is a white instant featured in the upcoming Magic: The Gathering 2012 Core Set.  Guardians’ Pledge was previewed today by the official Magic: The Gathering Twitter account, @wizards_Magic, and is a slightly more focused version of M11’s Inspired Charge.

Instant – Common

White creatures you control get +2/+2 until end of turn.

Simple and clean in the common slot, Guardians’ Pledge is cheaper provides an extra point of toughness, but you’re going to have to be sporting an almost pure white deck to get mileage out of it.  And if what has been revealed thus far from Magic 2012 is any indicator, Guardians’ Pledge will be a very viable kill option.  Goldfish a bit with just some of the cards already spoiled –

Turn 1: Gideon’s Lawkeeper/Elite Vanguard

Turn 2: Griffin Rider

Turn 3: Griffin Sentinel

While you may not be in for an all and out kill with Guardians’ Pledge like Overrun, you’ll be able to roll over any blockers, keep the majority of your forces, and punch through for significant damage.

Your opponent probably won’t even put his or her troops at risk if a Guardians’ Pledge is suspected, leaving them risking death when you decide to actually let the hammer fall.

As a common slot consideration Guardians’ Pledge looks very viable, but make no mistake – you’re going to want to be playing mono-white (or close to it) to support this card.
