'Guardians of the Galaxy' tied into 'The Avengers 3'

Since 1969, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy has been counterparts to the Avengers: outer space's mightiest heroes that comes together to fight the foes that no intergalactic superhero can battle alone.

This summer will mark the Guardians' 45th anniversary with their big-screen debut that includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel.

As with Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy is part of "Phase Two" in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with The Avengers: Age of Ultron completing it on May 1, 2015.

And speaking of "Earth's Mightiest Heroes", Variety has reported that the Guardians of the Galaxy will have ties to the third installment of the Avengers, whose members are Tony Stark/Iron Man, Thor, Bruce Banner/the Hulk, Steve Rogers/Captain America, Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, and Clint Barton/Hawkeye; it was confirmed by Guardians' writer/director James Gunn in Entertainment Weekly (EW).

Guardians of the Galaxy will begin to assemble on August 1.
