One of the biggest films to hit this summer is quite possibly a blockbuster that could go either way. Marvel Studios will be heading to unknown territory as The Guardians of the Galaxy make their film debut this August. Directed by James Gunn, Guardians bans a group of unlikely heroes into a massive space adventure. Unlike the previous films from Marvel, Guardians of the Galaxy will have no connection to the likes of Iron Man or Captain America. However, there is something that could inevitably bring these two teams together on the big screen.

According to a interview with Entertainment Weekly, James Gunn mentions that while Guardians is a stand alone film, there will be a connection with the upcoming Avengers 3.

"We're definitely connected to 'Avengers 3.'"

While the details about Avengers 3 is scarce, many fans could deduce that the third team up film was going to be connected with Guardians of the Galaxy. Why? Well if the post credit scene from The Avengers is any indication, you can probably guess that what connects these films together is none other then Thanos. The Mad Titan has been teased to face the Avengers since 2012, so it only makes sense that this showdown will happen in Avengers 3. We also know that Thanos will play a role in Guardians of the Galaxy. It may not be a major role, but Thanos will be somewhere in this upcoming film. So it is safe to say that Thanos will connect the Guardians with The Avengers, but does this mean the intergalactic team will be joining Earth Mightiest Heroes come 2018? We will have to see?

Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters on August 1st.
