'Guardians of the Galaxy' first trailer debut

The official trailer for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy has finally arrived.

The trailer debuted during Jimmy Kimmel Live! Tuesday, February 18, with star Chris Pratt there to introduce the much anticipated trailer.

Pratt joked with host Jimmy Kimmel before the trailer debut saying, "The Guardians of the Galaxy are a group of misfits who are brought together to win a baseball game. They use a trick play.”

Guardians of the Galaxy is quite the risk from Marvel, being that it is more light and comedic unlike its predecessors such as Iron Man and Captain America.

The first trailer gives audiences, familiar or not with the comics, and introduction to the band of misfits set to protect the universe from destruction.

Based on the 2008 comics, Guardians of the Galaxy follows brash adventurer Peter Quill (Pratt) finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan (Lee Pace), a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket (Bradley Cooper), a gun-toting raccoon, Groot (Vin Diesel), a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista). But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand - with the galaxy’s fate in the balance."

The superhero comedy also stars Doctor Who alumni Karen Gillan as Nebula, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, Glenn Close as Nova Prime Rael, and Benicio del Toro as The Collector.
