You may recall an article we published about building a ramp for a deaf, blind dog, because her guardian had cancer and didn't have the strengh to carry the dog up and down the deck stairs for her to relieve herself.
We pulled the article due to conflicting stories about whether their wish was to have this ramp built or to rehome their dog, Savannah.
Now, because her guardian is battling cancer, her guardian's wife works long hours, and they are financially stressed, they can't give this dog what she needs and it would be in her best interest to find a new home. Savannah is currently living in Richmond, Virginia.
Even though Savannah is small and adorable, this will not be as easy as we would hope because of her special needs.
By adopting her, these guardians actually saved Savannah from being put down by the breeder because she was born deaf. Also, within the last four months, she has gone blind.
Savannah is a 6-year-old Jack Russell Terrier who weighs about 15 pounds. She is housebroken, gets along with other dogs, is very friendly, and has no problem finding her food and water.
She has some hair loss in her rear area from biting and scratching. She has not seen a vet for this problem, but it's believed to be from a grain allergy, so possibly switching to a grain-free food would correct the problem.
Dogs can overcome their disabilities and live full, happy lives. Savannah just needs a chance. One she deserves. They are looking for a rescue or adopter to help her.
If you or someone you know is willing to give her that, please contact Mvtanito@aol.com. Otherwise please share her story in the hopes of reaching someone who can.
