Guaranteed rights and wrongs on CAPITAL Hill

The definition of insanity is the expectation of different results from the same, repeated behavior. Yet here we go again. Literally billions of dollars will be spent and millions of clandestine obligations will be made along America’s current campaign trail, once again paving the way to Capitol (CAPITAL) Hill. Though many promises are guaranteed to be made, exactly what rights will be guaranteed?

Once voted into office, the nation’s senators and representatives are guaranteed a prosperous life above the law. They are guaranteed exemption from Healthcare Reform laws, Minimum Wage laws, Mandatory Retirement Age laws, Guaranteed Student Loan Repayment laws, and sexual harassment lawsuits. Our votes and hard-earned tax dollars guarantee their general welfare: paid vacations, paid child care, paid health care, paid pension plans, paid political junkets (freebies, trips, and perks for family and friends), private chaplains, federal vehicles & airplanes, personal limousines, personal lawyers, and personal benefits (free college and graduate school tuition for themselves and their families).

After merely one (1) term in office America’s senators and representatives are guaranteed the right to receive annual welfare payments (100% of their salaries) for the remainder of their lives. Additionally, they are guaranteed the potential to receive millions of dollars from speaking engagements, personal interviews, and book royalties. No wonder the country’s senators and representatives feel little sense of emergency over the personal economic crises most Americans are forced to live and die under. Our votes and tax dollars guarantee they don’t have to care.

The 28th Amendment of the US Constitution clearly states, “Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States.” Yet over-worked and over-taxed American citizens continue to be denied a living wage by over-priced, over-paid, and over-rewarded political representatives. Meanwhile, the politics that create these problems get repeated time and time again. That’s not democracy; that’s guaranteed insanity.
