Rockstar Games announced Saturday that Grand Theft Auto V for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 officially went gold. Unfortunately, the developer also had to express its disappointment in a leak of game assets from PSN pre-orders in Europe that have led to the spread of spoilers.
Some PS3 owners in Europe were able to pre-order and download GTA V from the Playstation Store and gain access to some of the assets. This resulted in the spread of spoilers and other images from the game three weeks before its official worldwide release.
"As you can imagine, we are deeply disappointed by leaks and spoilers being spread in advance of the game's launch," Rockstar Games wrote in the comment section of its official blog. "GTAV represents years of hard work by many people across the world, and we all couldn't be more excited to finally share it with you properly this September 17th."
For its part, Sony apologized for the leak and removed the GTA V pre-order from the Playstation Store in Europe.
"We sincerely apologize to Rockstar and GTA fans across the world who were exposed to the spoiler content," Social Media Manager Sid Shuman wrote.
The GTA V digital pre-order for the PS3 is still available on the North American store.
