“Grand Theft Auto V” has been breaking records and making headlines since its release on September 17. As predicted Rockstar has managed to garner the top grossing media release; perhaps not just from the video game industry but the whole entertainment industry. Here’s the biggest story’s since the games release.
The highly anticipated game was released at Midnight Sep. 16th and the lines of waiting gamers trailed past store fronts across the world. In New York a group of impatient fans attempted to jump to the front of the line by impersonating NYPD officers. The group of three young men flashed fake badges after getting out of a retired police car bought at an auction to get to the front of the line on release day. The three were later caught by actual police officers who pulled them over for running stop signs.
Other GTA horror stories include a London gamer who was stabbed and hit with a brick right after purchasing “GTA V” on Wednesday before having the game stolen. Apparently overzealous GTA fans are willing to go to great lengths to get their hands on the coveted game. More on the reports can be read at Metro news here.
Rockstar announced that the game made $800 million on the first day alone. Three days later the game had made a billion dollars. The game was estimated to hit the billion dollar benchmark within the first month of release, but loyal GTA fans exceeded expectations and rushed to buy the game moving the impressive milestone up to day three of the games release timeline.
“GTA V” is ousting previous record holder “Call of Duty Black Ops 2” which hit the billion dollar mark on day 15 after release in November. Take-Two Interactive is calling “GTA V” the' fastest selling video game in history'. It may be even more successful than blockbuster movie releases.
