Rockstar Games confirmed Wednesday what most already suspected about “Grand Theft Auto Online” for the PS3 and Xbox 360 following the “I am not a Hipster” update.” Heists will not make the planned spring 2014.
The “I’m not a Hipster” update was released Tuesday, June 17 with a collection of non-ironic clothing, jobs, weapons, cars and more. It even included new features and fixes to “GTA Online.” However, it did not include Heists and the impending start of summer made clear that the previously promised spring release for the co-op multiplayer mode isn’t going to happen.
“We know many fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of the Online Heists that we had planned to release for you this spring, and they are taking more time to create than originally anticipated,” Rockstar wrote in an update in the comments on its website. “We are very sorry for the delay, and are working hard to bring them to you as soon as we can.”
“Please know that we are focused as always on making the best possible content for you to play and we are thankful to all of you for your patience, understanding and support. Stay tuned for more information on that as well as lots of other ongoing content updates, enhancements and additions to the world of GTA Online that are on the way.”
“Heists” were originally scheduled to be part of “GTA Online” when the “Grand Theft Auto V” multiplayer mode launched in October last year. That launch was a debacle though with users experiencing numerous problems from not being logged in to losing their characters or progress.
Fixing the buggy online play became priority number one for Rockstar Games and it did eventually become relatively stable, though exploits were still prevalent. Despite the lack of Heists, the good news is that “GTA Online” has continued to receive free content update and Rockstar appears dedicated to continue to deliver those. Now the question is whether Heists will make it out before or after “Grand Theft Auto V” is released to the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
