Rockstar Games received an award for achieving a sales milestone for the Playstation 3 version of the recently-released multiplatform video game, “GTA 5.” According to a report by Gematsu on Dec. 3, the open-world action-adventure title managed to ship over a million units between Nov. 1, 2012 and Oct. 31, 2013 in the regions that covered Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia.

GTA 5” came out in Japan on Oct. 10, which was nearly a month after the North American launch. Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia confirmed that the video game shipped more than one million units as of the end of October in Japan and presumably other Asian countries. As a result, it earned the Platinum Prize during this year’s PlayStation Awards.

Moreover, it was the only software product on the PS3 and Playstation Vita to reach that particular sales milestone over the one year period, which is quite a big achievement in itself as most western-developed video games don’t sell well in Japan.

“GTA 5” was first released for the Playstation 3, along with the Xbox 360, console on Sept. 17 in North America and other regions. It managed to generate $1 billion in revenue in just three days. Rockstar Games also recently stated that 29 million copies of the open-world action-adventure video game have been shipped.
