It’s obvious to see the influence of numerous Rockstar Games titles within Grand Theft Auto V. From the weapon wheel of Max Payne 3 to Red Dead Redemption’s dynamic side quests, the next GTA game borrows heavily from other Rockstar Games releases. As revealed in a report by IGN on Sept 5, this was a conscious decision from the developer and one that the studio has used in the past.
When Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was in development, Rockstar used a similar technique to create a new shooting mechanic for the series. Rather than reusing the firearm controls of GTA: Vice City or creating a brand new one altogether, the developer borrowed elements found inside their prior release of Manhunt.
IGN revealed that Rockstar has taken this practice to new levels for Grand Theft Auto V, making the upcoming title somewhat of a collection of the developer’s best recent work. The firearm, aiming, and weapon selection mechanics are all taken from Max Payne 3. While behind the wheel, fans will notice the undeniable influence of Midnight Club: Los Angeles and the title’s vast wilderness and wildlife have their noticeable roots in Red Dead Redemption. This allows the open-world game to have many different aspects that each play like they were the central focus of development, because they were for other titles.
Grand Theft Auto V releases on Sept 17 for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
