Strauss Zelnick has provided a comparison between the potential hardware sales of the PS4 and Xbox One when put up against the PS3 and Xbox 360. According to a report from VG247 on Dec. 4, the chief executive officer of Take-Two Interactive disclosed to investors during the Credit Suisse’ 2013 Technology Conference that the two next-generation systems will sell faster that the current-generation consoles.
Strauss Zelnick believed that the PS4 and Xbox One can outsell the PS3 and Xbox 360 in just five years barring any meltdowns from the economy. You can check out some screenshots of “GTA 5” in the slideshow to the left of this article and his statement below (courtesy of VG247 and Games Industry International):
I’d specifically say yes because it appears that – and this is largely anecdotal but tablets are a good example – all these new iterations of more and more exciting hardware seem to have picked up in velocity generationally compared to five or 10 years ago. But if we had a big market meltdown, for example, a repeat of ’08 and ’09 in three years, or two years, or two minutes, that would influence it. But if this economy stays on this track, yeah, I feel good about it.
The Xbox 360 came out in 2005 while the PS3 was released in 2006. The two current-generation consoles sold approximately 80 million units so far. The PS4 and Xbox One came out this year. Sony Computer Entertainment reported that their next-generation system sold 2.1 million units so far as of Dec. 1 while Microsoft disclosed that they have sold more than a million units within the first 24 hours of launch.
Take-Two Interactive is the parent company of Rockstar Games, the publisher that released “GTA 5” on the PS3 and Xbox 360. The software product managed to break numerous sales records with more than 29 million copies shipped so far. A potential port of “GTA 5” on the PS4 and Xbox One has not yet been confirmed or denied.
