Rockstar Games, the publisher of "GTA 5," may have finally cancelled the upcoming PS3 exclusive video game, "Agent." According to a report from Gamepur on Aug. 25, Gamefly sent out emails to customers informing them that the new intellectual property has been removed from their queue. The game rental website provided a possible reason for the removal by stating that the video game was cancelled by the publisher.

"Agent" made a high-profile debut during Sony Computer Entertainment's press conference at E3 2007. The announcement was viewed by many as an important one when taking into consideration that the PS3 has been struggling at that time. Furthermore, Rockstar Games also formed an timed-exclusive DLC deal with Microsoft in regards to "GTA 4" on the Xbox 360. As a result, Sony had to counter with announcing "Agent" as a PS3 exclusive.

The new intellectual property was a stealth-based game that takes place during the Cold War era. The video game was developed by Rockstar North with the company's founders, Dan and Sam Houser, overseeing the project. Aside from a logo and some leaked screens of an extremely early build, "Agent" was mostly kept from the public's eye.

The aforementioned Rockstar North ended up developing "GTA 5," which went on to sell more than 30 million units so far on the PS3 and Xbox 360. The potential cancellation of "Agent" suggested that the development team may be focusing on the "Grand Theft Auto" series from now on due to its popularity. The publisher is also heavily rumored to be working on a new "Red Dead" game and other titles.

The cancellations could also mean that the new intellectual property may have been moved to the next-generation systems. Rockstar North is already porting "GTA 5" for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. All three versions are expected to arrive later this fall season in North America.
