Crews in Rockstar Games’ upcoming Grand Theft Auto V will function as the game’s answer to player run guilds that appear in many other online titles. It adds an in-game mechanic that allows players to group together by easily declaring their allegiance to one another and, as reported by IGN on Aug 29, the developer has detailed how the ranking hierarchy system for the crews of GTA 5 will operate.
A crew starts with a leader. This is the player who decides to found the crew. The leader is then free to invite others into the crew and assign them different ranks. Just under the leader is the rank of commissioner. These are the trusted members who can act on the leader’s behalf in their absence. They can both invite and promote new members into the crew. The third rank gamers can be assigned is that of lieutenant. Members with this level can promote players of lesser rank than them within the crew. The bottom two rungs are titled representatives and muscle. These are reserved for the new comers or those who aren’t interested in player politics and simply want to focus on mayhem but still wish to belong to a crew.
