Rockstar Games has provided more details regarding the online multiplayer mode of the upcoming Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 video game, “GTA 5.” According to a report by Strategy Informer on Aug. 20, the latest installment from the “Grand Theft Auto” franchise will feature a rather unique matchmaking concept.
Players will be able to launch the online multiplayer mode in “GTA 5” from the character selection menu while playing the single-player campaign. From there, the camera would pan out to your custom multiplayer character. During this process, the video game will automatically look to populate the online world with players on your friends list or those who have a similar rank as you.
Rockstar Games also talked a little bit about the unique mechanic that encourages cooperative play with others online. A group of players have a statistic called “team lives” in which the value will decrease when a teammate dies. The cooperative mission will fail if “team lives” are completely depleted.
The online mode of “GTA 5” includes 700 missions. Furthermore, players can also create custom quests, such as racing challenges and death match battles, due to the new content creation features.
“GTA 5” will be released on Sept. 17 while the online multiplayer mode won’t be made available until Oct. 1. The update will be free of charge. You can check out a set of screenshots from the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 video game in the slideshow near the top of this article.
