A more comprehensive comparison has been made regarding the graphics for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the recently-released multiplatform video game, “GTA 5.” An article from Eurogamer from Sept. 17 revealed that the latest “Grand Theft Auto” entry runs nearly identical on the two current-generation consoles with minor differences.
The Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of “GTA 5” are both rendered natively at the 720p resolution. This is a big step up in terms of parity from the previously title, “GTA 4,” which was rendered at 20% less pixels on Sony’s system when compared to Microsoft’s platform.
The most visible differences between “GTA 5” on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 involve the textures. The Playstation 3 does a better job at rendering ground textures while the Xbox 360 version of the open-world action-adventure video game is more adept at producing foliage such as palm trees.
Finally, the frame rate disparities are also quite small. “GTA 5” on the Xbox 360 seems to run a little bit smoother during cut scenes while the frame rate perform slightly better during chaotic gameplay sequences on the Playstation 3.
“GTA 5” hit store shelves on Sept. 17 for the two current-generation platforms. Despite potential leaks from multiple retailers and the game’s source code, Rockstar Games has kept silent on the possibility of porting the title to other platforms such as the PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
