A comparison has been made in regards to the sales of “GTA 5,” “Call of Duty: Ghosts” and two prior “Call of Duty” games. According to a report from My Nintendo News on Jan. 1, the fifth main installment from the “Grand Theft Auto” series ended up outselling the three latest entries of the “Call of Duty” series.
3,670,234 copies of “GTA 5” were sold in the United Kingdom by the end of 2013. The sales of the open-world action-adventure video game easily outpaced the second best-selling video game, “Call of Duty: Ghosts,” which managed 1,991,994 units.
Unfortunately for Activision, the “Call of Duty” series has declined over the past several years. “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3” was the best-selling video game for the same region in 2011 with 2,814,609 copies sold. Moreover, “Call of Duty: Black Ops 2” also took the sales crown in 2012 by selling 2,672,364 by year’s end. The sales showed that more players were more interested in the first “Grand Theft Auto” video game in five years than the annual releases of the “Call of Duty” franchise.
“GTA 5” was released worldwide on Sept. 17 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 current-generation consoles. “Call of Duty: Ghosts” arrive on the following six gaming platforms starting on Nov. 5: Nintendo Wii U, PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
