Grumpy Cat, also known as Tardar Sauce, made an appearance in Chicago on May 21, 2014. She came to Navy Pier and lounged in a green bed on a table, right outside the Navy Pier Signature Store, much to the delight of the hundreds of Chicagoans who lined up to see her.

According to ABC7 Chicago, the Internet's most famous feline was in town to promote her new Grumpy Cat Mints at McCormick Place, where she also made an appearance. The mints are available on, if you would like to sample them.

The line at Navy Pier snaked back and forth through barricades, and then around a corner, around another corner, and finally, all the way back through the Smith Museum of Stained Glass Windows. Those who were fortunate enough to think of arriving very, very early got in and out, once Grumpy Cat was finished with her press interviews. The rest of us waited for what seemed like an eternity for our 30 seconds next to the adorable, highly famous Internet cat.

For her part, Grumpy Cat appeared to be so bored that, when people who'd been waiting for two hours finally got to her, she was sound asleep. However, when someone would accidentally rustle the banner behind her green bed, she'd twitch her ears and open her eyes. Once, she raised her head a little to look around, and then put her head back down and dozed off again.

Everybody waiting in line to meet her got the chance for whatever pictures they wanted, with their own cameras and at no charge. Nobody in the line touched the sleepy Grumpy Cat, but all put their faces as close to her as possible and wore various expressions while their pictures were snapped.

And it was hard to get a bad picture, because even asleep, Grumpy Cat still had her signature grumpy frown. Sadly, though, this writer was unable to interview her because she was sound asleep. However, the photo op was a lot of fun, and showed just how adorable Grumpy Cat really is.
