Growing in tune with the moon and other natural rhythms

It used to be that farmers and gardeners planted, cultivated and harvested crops according to the astronomical cycles. Some still do but most have pushed past the tyranny of those natural rhythms and adopted the modern conveniences of efficiency and control. As a whole, we've pretty much forgotten how to even recognize the natural cues and cycles.

A lot of people would argue that that forgetfulness has much to do with what makes it tough to get our food system back on track or even make personal choices about returning to a more balanced and sustainable lifestyle. Fortunately, what probably once was an almost innate recognition of natural patterns can be relearned. All it takes to get started is a good biodynamic calendar.

And In tune with the Moon 2011: the complete day-by-day moon planner for growing and living in 2011, by Michel Gros, would be a good place to start.

If you've ever used a biodynamic calendar and were mystified by the apparent complexity, In Tune with the Moon could be just the ticket for you. This calendar is in book format and includes a lot of supporting information to help you understand how the moon and other astrological cycles influence growth of all kinds. There is even information on beekeeping, composting, beer making, hair dressing, skin care...you get the idea.

The author Michel Gros grew up on a farm and was a longtime market gardener, so he knows his way around growing.  Amply illustrated with a two-page spread for each calendar month and monthly pages on which to make your own notes, this accessible guide and calendar can help to get you back on track and in sync.

With so much attention on eating seasonally and sustainably these days, it's time to start really grounding those choices in the natural cycles. It's what will make those decisions come easier.

In tune with the Moon 2011: the complete day-by-day moon planner for growing and living in 2011, by Michel Gros, published by Findhorn Press*, is distributed in the United States through Independent Publishers Group and so is available from your local bookstore or from one of the online book sellers.

*note: The times in this calendar are set to Greenwich Mean Time, but there are clear instructions included for adjusting to your particular time zone.
