Are you on Facebook, Twitter, or MySpace (really, does anyone still use MySpace)? Do you promote your eBay products with social media? It seems as if today, Social Media is one of the best ways to grow your business. Not only can you reach your followers, when someone likes or retweets your status then you have just reached hundreds more. It’s important to remember that not all Social Media accounts are appropriate to promote on. Here are some tips and tricks that eBay provided to help you along the way:
Use the right tools – There are many tools that you can use out there, but picking the right ones may impact how your business grows. Try to remember that Facebook is mostly for staying in touch with your friends and family, Twitter is for breaking news, Blogs are for sharing your story, and YouTube is for demoing products and educational videos.
Start Small – It is okay to use all of those channels, but its also important to start small. Begin with one channel and build up your presence. As you go, learn from your experience, measure, and improve.
Create separate social media handles for your eBay selling – If you use Facebook for personal reasons, then you know how annoying it can be when a friend constantly posts about something you don’t care about. Well, the same thing will be true for you if you are constantly updating about your new products. With Facebook, create a separate fan page for your business. Invite your friends to join your page if they are interested.
Keep your presence fresh – Plan on posting new and fresh content several times a week to keep customers coming back for more!
Have a plan behind your postings – Think through every post and make sure it’s interesting and relevant to your audience.
Engage with your fans on social media channels – Share information that’s interesting and fun. From your business Facebook page, add comments to other postings and blogs.
Listen, respond promptly, and learn - Reply to questions within 24 hours with friendly, helpful comments.
Don’t spam your fans! - Be selective in sharing your listings – share one or two a day that are interesting to your followers.
Cross-promote your social media channels – Post your YouTube videos on your blog. Post a Facebook update and link when you have a new blog post. Point your Twitter followers to your blog. You get the idea!
Don’t expect instant results – It takes a while to build a following. Keep posting interesting and new content and your customers will spread the word.
Using these tips and tricks will get you ahead in the game, and soon you will see your business growing because of this. My favorite tip is number 10. It takes time, remember that.
