Grow Deeper

Well, it’s that time of year again. Parents and kids alike are getting ready to go back to school. It is a new
season of learning and growing. Parents grow in their ability to parent, and kids grow in their knowledge and in becoming the people their parents are raising them to be.

L. Scott Martens wrote in to Reader’s Digest with the following story. “On a crisp Minnesota fall afternoon, my four-year-old son was helping me rake leaves in the front yard of our farmhouse. I glanced up just in time to see a flock of geese flying over and pointed out how they flew in a formation shaped like a ‘V’.

He patiently watched them as they disappeared over the horizon and then turning to me asked, ‘Do they know any other letters?’”

Like the boy who didn’t realize the reason the geese flew in a “V” formation, many adult Christians don’t understand or know the reason behind their faith. They aimlessly live their Christian lives Sunday to Sunday without growing or going deeper in their walk with God.

Hebrews 5:11-14 says, “11 About this we have much to say that is hard to explain, since you have become dull in understanding. 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic elements of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food; 13 for everyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is unskilled in the word of righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature, for those whose faculties have been trained by practice to distinguish good from evil.”

So I want to encourage you to go deeper in your faith. Go on to the spiritual meat instead of the milk.
