Over 6,500 people were in attendance at last year’s fest, and event planners are upping the ante by adding an additional 50 beers making it an over-250-beer-sampling bonanza.
We here at the blog are pretty excited not only because of the mass quantity of fine brew that will flow through us that day but also by just having another opportunity to document the beginnings of Miami’s rise to beer infamy.
You can expect to see many of Miami’s most recent additions to the official world of brewing including Wynwood Brewing Co. and Gravity Brewlab; up-and-coming homebrewers 4th Age Brewing and Moron Brothers; and pours from your favorite established brewpubs like Titanic. The homebrews are expected to be top notch as they have their own competition and glory at stake.
Plus, if that wasn’t enough, enjoy some of the top-selling brands from across the country including Stone Brewing Co. and Green Flash Brewing Co. from California; Abita Brewing Co. from New Orleans; and Hawaii’s own Kona Brewing Co. You can check out their ever-growing list here.
Since beer is much tastier when you actually know what you’re drinking, B.R.E.W. FIU will be on hand again with their Beer 101 class, teaching you the 5-S system of tasting beer (Hint: Even though it’s Miami, none of the S words are “Sazon” “Swagger” “Shank” or “Skank,” but I’m pretty sure I just invented an equally excellent rubric).
Once you know what you’ve tasted, learn how to pair it with a meal at Milam’s Kitchen Lab, where some of Miami’s top chefs will be giving cooking demos and colorful commentary on how to pair brews and birds, saisons with salads, malt with meat, you get the idea. Considering chefs are from top restaurants including Michael’s Genuine Food and Drink and Joe’s Stone Crab, your brain should be foaming over with tasty knowledge.
Now that you’re chock full of delicious calories, dance it off in front of Bouganvillea’s Main Stage featuring Liza Quin and The Bureau, surprisingly not a ticket clinic on Brickell. The group seems to dominate in the soulful rock/pop mid-tempo ballad, perfect for unintentional swaying after a day filled with beer.
