According to Canadian Olympic silver medalist Kristina Groves of CBC Sports on Sunday, when Olga Graf won the first medal for Russia at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in the women's 3000m speed skating event, she recorded a personal best time of 4:03.47.

In the women's 3000m speed skating event, Graf posted a time of 4:03.47 to win the Olympic bronze medal. Ireen Wust of the Netherlands won the gold medal with a time of 4:00.34 and Martina Sablikova of the Czech Republic won the silver medal with a time of 4:01.94.

Groves, who won the silver medal in the women's 1500m at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin and then again at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, was surprised Graf was able to post such a strong time because Sochi is so close to sea level.

According to Groves, many speed skaters who are competing at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi have recorded their personal bests either at the Olympic Oval in Calgary or at Salt Lake City where there is high altitude in both locations.

Groves does not believe a world record will be set at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games as well.
